Kintetsu Department Store Celebrates Children's Day With Special Treats

Kintetsu Department Store offers kashiwa mochi and chimaki for Children's Day while welcoming a new apron store for Mother's Day.

As May 5, 2025, approaches, families across Japan prepare to celebrate Children's Day, a traditional holiday that honors the health and happiness of children. This year, Kintetsu Department Store in Kusatsu is set to delight customers with a special selection of kashiwa mochi and chimaki, sweet rice cakes that are integral to the festivities.

Kashiwa mochi, a delicacy wrapped in oak leaves, symbolizes strength and protection, making it a popular choice for this occasion. At Kintetsu Department Store, shoppers can find an array of kashiwa mochi options. For instance, a pack of three pieces, which includes both white and yomogi (mugwort) varieties, is priced at 681 yen. The mochi is made using locally sourced rice flour and features a homemade red bean paste filling.

Another local favorite, the kashiwa mochi from the renowned shop Shirohira, offers two pieces filled with either smooth red bean paste or white miso paste for 508 yen. This shop is well-known for its high-quality ingredients and traditional methods.

Additionally, the store will feature kashiwa mochi and yomogi kashiwa mochi, each available for 216 yen. The yomogi version is particularly popular, as it combines the fragrant flavor of mugwort with sweet bean paste.

Chimaki, another festive treat, will also be available. Customers can purchase three pieces for 860 yen or five pieces for 1,650 yen, allowing families to choose the quantity that best suits their needs.

The excitement doesn’t end there! Kintetsu Department Store is also celebrating its Refresh Open Anniversary, which continues until May 6, 2025. This event is marked by various promotions and special offerings throughout the store.

Looking ahead, on May 14, 2025, a new takeout specialty store called "Ume no Hana" will open its doors, alongside the renovation of the popular fried chicken shop "Gyuno Fuku." These additions promise to enhance the culinary experience at Kintetsu Department Store.

For those planning to visit, the store's hours are as follows: the first and second floors are open from 10:00 AM to 7:30 PM, while the third and fourth floors operate from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Some shops on the fourth floor remain open until 9:00 PM, and the restaurant area on the fifth floor serves from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

In a related event, Kintetsu Department Store in Yokkaichi will welcome a new store, "Michelle Macotto," specializing in stylish dress aprons. This store will open just in time for Mother's Day, which falls on May 11, 2025.

Michelle Macotto, hailing from Matsusaka City in Mie Prefecture, offers a range of beautiful dress aprons adorned with designs inspired by mountain wildflowers. The store will feature 14 adult apron patterns, three children’s patterns, and three triangular cloths, all perfect for gifting.

Dress aprons are on sale for 6,800 yen, reflecting a discount of 2,000 yen, while triangular cloths are priced at 2,800 yen, with a discount of 1,000 yen. These stylish and functional aprons make for thoughtful gifts for mothers on their special day.

Located in front of the Book Tower on the fourth floor of Kintetsu Department Store Yokkaichi, Michelle Macotto aims to attract shoppers looking for unique and practical gifts. With the combination of Children's Day celebrations and Mother's Day gifts, Kintetsu Department Store is poised to be a bustling hub for families this May.

As the holiday draws near, families are encouraged to visit Kintetsu Department Store to enjoy the festive offerings, including the delicious kashiwa mochi and chimaki, along with the newly opened Michelle Macotto store.
