Kia Unveils Premium Carens Clavis MPV In India

Bookings for the upgraded model start May 9 with enhanced features and design

Kia has officially unveiled the Carens Clavis in India, a model positioned as a more premium version of the existing Carens MPV. The launch took place on May 8, 2025, and bookings will commence at 12:01 AM on May 9, 2025, with a token amount of Rs 25,000 required for interested buyers.

The Carens Clavis, while based on the standard Carens, boasts significant upgrades in both design and features. This model introduces Kia's latest design language, characterized by a sharper front fascia inspired by the international-spec Kia EV5, featuring three-pod LED headlamps and a distinctive digital tiger face. The overall silhouette remains similar to the Carens, but the Clavis distinguishes itself with new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a more angular bumper design.

Available in eight monotone exterior colors—Ivory Silver Gloss, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Sparkling Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, and Clear White—the Clavis aims to appeal to a diverse range of customers. Notably, the Ivory Silver Gloss is exclusive to this model, while the vibrant Intense Red found in the current Carens will not be offered.

Inside, the Carens Clavis features a revamped cabin with a focus on modern technology and comfort. It includes a dual 12.3-inch display setup, combining a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system. This layout is reminiscent of the one found in the Kia Seltos, providing a more digital and connected experience for drivers and passengers alike. The interior also showcases updated seat upholstery and controls, with a flat-bottom steering wheel inspired by the Kia Syros.

Feature-wise, the Clavis is packed with enhancements over the standard Carens. The top-spec HTX+ variant includes a four-way powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, a high-quality Bose audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. Additionally, the Clavis is equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which encompasses features such as adaptive cruise control, front collision assist, and lane keep assist.

The Carens Clavis will be offered with multiple engine options, including a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115 hp, a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine generating 160 hp, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 116 hp. This model introduces an additional transmission option for the turbo-petrol engine, allowing for a six-speed manual gearbox alongside the existing six-speed automatic and seven-speed dual-clutch options. The diverse powertrain choices aim to cater to varying consumer preferences, particularly in a market that increasingly favors both petrol and diesel variants.

Pricing for the Carens Clavis has yet to be officially announced, but it is expected to start around Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom), slightly above the current Carens, which ranges from Rs 10.60 lakh to Rs 19.70 lakh. The Clavis will face competition from models like the Maruti Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, and the more premium Toyota Innova variants, but Kia positions it as a unique offering with no direct rivals in its segment.

As the automotive market in India continues to evolve, the introduction of the Kia Carens Clavis marks a strategic move for the brand, aiming to capture a share of the growing demand for premium MPVs. With its blend of style, technology, and practicality, the Clavis is poised to attract both families and tech-savvy consumers looking for a well-rounded vehicle.

In summary, the Kia Carens Clavis stands out with its modern design, enhanced features, and diverse powertrain options. As bookings open, many are eager to see how this model will perform in the competitive MPV market.
