Khao Yai Launches Hornbill-Themed Clothing For Songkran

The new collection aims to promote conservation and boost local tourism during Thailand's water festival.

In a vibrant move to embrace the spirit of the upcoming Songkran festival, the Khao Yai Conservation Club and Tsai Suk have launched a creative line of clothing featuring the enchanting hornbill design. Dubbed "Hornbill Pattern Happiness Valley – Tsai Suk", the collection evokes the stunning biodiversity of Khao Yai National Park, aiming to both celebrate and conserve the natural wonders of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

This unique clothing line includes eye-catching shorts and stylish t-shirts adorned with images of the hornbill and the gibbon, serving not only as fashionable attire but as a symbol of Khao Yai’s rich ecosystem. The brainchild behind this initiative is Prittit Kengsoongnoen, a guide, independent photographer, and owner of Tsai Suk.

Prittit was inspired to create these garments as a way to highlight the natural beauty of Khao Yai. "I wanted shorts that expressed the essence of nature in Khao Yai, incorporating the hornbill as a representation of abundance and the intact forests of the World Heritage site," he explained. The hornbill serves as a beautiful symbol, reflecting the rich diversity that attracts both local and international tourists to the park year-round, drawn by its breathtaking scenery and pristine air.

The unveiling of the "Hornbill Pattern Happiness Valley – Tsai Suk" collection comes at a time of increased government support for local tourism, with authorities encouraging each province to promote their own tourism-specific attire during the Songkran celebrations. This initiative aligns with efforts to stimulate local economies and generate income for communities through tourism.

Authorities have voiced a desire to implement measures that curb illegal activities in Khao Yai, particularly targeting groups such as the "Gang Lay Nguak" that have recently come under scrutiny for illegal excavations in the park. This gang, which consists of both Thai and foreign nationals, represents a challenge to the ongoing conservation efforts. The term "Nguak" translates to wealth, signifying an intriguing connection to the idea of digging into Khao Yai for profit.

As the Khao Yai region prepares for the vibrant Songkran festival, the focus on promoting conservation through unique clothing Wear is not only a colorful addition but also a poignant reminder of the need to protect and celebrate local heritage and natural beauty.

This initiative reflects a broader understanding of heritage tourism, where such efforts can contribute significantly to environmental education and local economies.

With the launch of the "Hornbill Pattern Happiness Valley – Tsai Suk" collection, both conservationists and fashion enthusiasts alike can appreciate the blend of style and sustainability.

The Khao Yai Conservation Club and Tsai Suk's efforts underscore a significant approach to environmental stewardship, ensuring that the beauty of Khao Yai and its vibrant culture can be enjoyed by generations to come.
