Kenzo Morita Returns To Television After 39 Years

The former governor and actor will appear on 'Tetsuko's Room' to share life lessons and cook with his wife.

Actor Kenzo Morita, who also served as the former governor of Chiba Prefecture, is making waves with his highly anticipated return to TV. The 75-year-old will appear on TV Asahi's 'Tetsuko's Room' on March 24, 2025, marking his third appearance on the show and the first since 1986, when he last graced the program nearly 39 years ago.

Morita's return is nostalgic for fans and the show's host, Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, who expressed astonishment at how quickly time has passed. "Wow, has it really been so long?" she remarked, only to follow up with admiration for Morita, saying, "It's wonderful to see you haven't changed at all since then!" During the broadcast, Morita reminisced about his marriage, stating, "I got married back in 1986, just four months after my previous appearance on the show." His marriage certainly brings back memories, and Kuroyanagi nodded, recalling how Morita was once referred to as a 'youth star' and must have felt immense pressure during those years.

Morita reflected on those challenging times, saying, "When I was around 20 to 30, I often heard things like, 'Aren't you too old for this?' I spent some time searching for my acting style. But I eventually focused on the idea of running toward the sunset, believing no one could beat me at it, which really paved my path forward. After all, how could I forget the lyrics, 'Say goodbye to tears'? They motivated me significantly. My marriage added to this positive momentum as well."

Interestingly, Morita shared his surprising physical condition. Despite being 75 years old, he mentioned, "I have hardly changed since my twenties. I can still wear outfits from back then!" Kuroyanagi jokingly pointed out the role his wife played in maintaining his health. During the episode, they even featured Morita's wife, Michiko, showcasing some of her cooking, which Kuroyanagi suggested might be the secret to Morita's seemingly ageless physique.

The two shared plenty of laughs over Morita's political career as well, with Kuroyanagi acknowledging, "You've done so well not just as an actor, but you've also made it to governor of Chiba. Your wife must have had quite the challenge managing everything!" To which he agreed, saying, "There have been some ups and downs, but now I'm full of gratitude for her support." Morita's introspection about life and love offered viewers insight beyond the glitz of showbiz few get to see.

Morita also divulged details about his daily routine, emphasizing the importance of physical activity even at his age. He revealed, "I wake up every day at 3:00 AM, and by around 4:30 AM, I’m out walking for about an hour. I've got three partners who join me, and I’m the youngest among them! The oldest is 92, then there's 88, and then 79. They bring me so much energy!" It’s clear he cherishes these moments and finds joy and vitality among his walking companions.

On the subject of Morita's humor during the show, Kuroyanagi was constant with laughter, perhaps stunned by how quick-witted he still was. After the taping, Morita expressed his appreciation for Kuroyanagi, stating, "To me, Kuroyanagi is like my vitamin. I want this program to continue on for ages, and I hope to have the chance to appear for the third time." His sentiment is both personal and heartfelt, echoing the admiration many have for his efforts through the decades.

This upcoming episode of 'Tetsuko's Room' promises to be more than just entertainment; it will allow audiences to connect with Morita's life lessons and timeless wisdom too. Fans are eagerly waiting, and for some, this might be just the dose of nostalgia they needed!
