Kendrick Lamar has made headlines yet again, leading the pack with a staggering ten nominations for the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs), the most of any artist this year. The three-time AMA winner is nominated in eight categories, including the prestigious Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Lamar is also vying for the title of Favorite Hip-Hop Song three times for his tracks "Not Like Us," "Like That" (featuring Future and Metro Boomin), and "Luther" (with SZA). If he wins in all eight categories, he could tie the legendary Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most AMAs won in a single year.
Hot on Lamar's heels is Post Malone, who received eight nominations and will compete against him in several top categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year. Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey are also in the running, each with seven nominations. This year marks a significant milestone for Roan and Shaboozey, as it is their first time being nominated for AMAs. Other first-time nominees include Benson Boone, Doechii, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Lola Young, The Marias, ROSÉ, Teddy Swims, Tommy Richman, Tyla, Sabrina Carpenter, and Zach Bryan.
Adding to the excitement, Taylor Swift, the artist with the most AMAs in history, received six nominations this year, potentially adding to her remarkable total of 40 wins. Other artists nominated for six awards include Sabrina Carpenter, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen, and SZA.
The 51st AMAs will take place on May 26, 2025, in Las Vegas, hosted by the iconic Jennifer Lopez. This year, the AMAs introduced several new categories, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Social Song of the Year. Chappell Roan stands out as the only artist nominated in all three of these new categories.
Voting for the AMAs is open to fans through various methods, allowing them to support their favorite artists. Fans can cast their votes online at VoteAMAs.com or via Instagram by commenting under the AMAs’ pinned "VOTE HERE" post, using unique hashtags for each artist in every category. Each artist has a specific hashtag corresponding to the awards they are nominated for, and fans can submit up to 25 votes per category per voting method every day until the awards.
On special "Turbo Days"—April 29, May 6, and May 13—fans can double their votes. Voting on Instagram will close on May 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PT, while web voting will close at the same time, except for Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year, which will remain open until the show begins on May 26 at 5:30 p.m. PT.
The AMAs, established in 1974 by legendary producer Dick Clark, are known as the world’s largest fan-voted award show. Lamar's impressive nomination tally not only highlights his talent but also sets the stage for a competitive awards night.
As the anticipation builds for the 2025 AMAs, fans and artists alike are eager to see who will take home the coveted trophies. With a record-breaking number of nominations and the introduction of new categories, this year’s ceremony promises to be an unforgettable event in the world of music.
