Kempten Bakeries Adjust Hours For Easter Weekend

As Easter approaches, bakeries and supermarkets in Kempten prepare for altered hours and closures during the holiday.

As Easter weekend approaches, many people are looking forward to sleeping in and enjoying a leisurely breakfast. However, those in Kempten planning to pick up fresh bread, pastries, or Easter bread should be aware that not all bakeries will be open during the holidays, and many will operate on altered hours.

The Hamma bakery and confectionery will be open during the Easter holidays, but with varying hours across its three branches. The branch at Memminger Straße 75 will be open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday from 6:30 AM to 4 PM, while on Holy Saturday, it will be open from 6:30 AM to 5 PM. The Bahnhofplatz 2 location will have extended hours, open from 6:30 AM to 7 PM on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday, and from 5:30 AM to 7 PM on Holy Saturday. The Kotterner Straße 82 branch will be open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday from 7 AM to 4 PM, and on Holy Saturday from 7 AM to 6 PM.

Among the seven branches of the Schwarz bakery in Kempten, only the Ludwigstraße 82 store in St. Mang will be open during the Easter holidays. This branch will operate from 6:30 AM to 6 PM on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday. All branches will follow their usual hours on Holy Saturday.

The Sinz country bakery will also have special hours during Easter. The Salzstraße 40 branch will be open on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday from 7:30 AM to 5 PM, and on Holy Saturday from 7 AM to 5 PM. The Residenzplatz 23a branch will open only on Easter Sunday from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM and on Holy Saturday from 6 AM to 4 PM, remaining closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

Meanwhile, the two branches of the Speiser bakery and confectionery will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday. They will operate on Holy Saturday during regular hours and will be open on Easter Sunday from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM. The Feilbergstraße 35 branch will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday but will be open on Easter Sunday from 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM and on Holy Saturday from 6 AM to 12 PM. The Augustinerstraße 33 branch will have the same schedule as the Feilbergstraße location.

The Reitberger bakery and confectionery will also close on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but will be open on Holy Saturday during regular hours. On Easter Sunday, all Reitberger branches will be open from 8 AM to 11 AM, except for the branch located in Netto in Durach.

Not all bakeries will be open during the holidays. The Brommler confectionery will be closed throughout the Easter period, with its Kempten branches opening only during regular hours on Holy Saturday. Similarly, the Wipper Conditorei Bäckerei will remain closed during the holidays, but customers can shop during regular hours from 6 AM to 1 PM on Holy Saturday.

In addition to bakeries, consumers should also be aware of supermarket opening hours during the Easter holidays. Many supermarkets will be closed due to public holiday regulations. On Maundy Thursday (April 17, 2025), all supermarkets, including Aldi, Lidl, Rewe, and Edeka, will operate as usual. However, on Good Friday (April 18, 2025), all regular supermarkets will be closed.

Holy Saturday (April 19, 2025) is a normal working day, so all supermarkets will be open as usual. On Easter Sunday (April 20, 2025) and Easter Monday (April 21, 2025), regular supermarkets will again be closed. Consumers near major train stations, ferry terminals, or airports may have access to open drugstores and supermarkets due to special regulations. Some tourist areas may also have different opening hours, and kiosks and late-night shops may be open in certain federal states. Gas stations with food sections are often open despite the holidays.

Bakeries and confectioneries generally have different rules. According to the Ladenschlussgesetz (Shop Closing Act), bakeries and confectioneries are allowed to open on Sundays and public holidays, with exceptions for Easter Sunday, the second day of Christmas, and Whit Monday. However, bakeries with an attached café may remain open on public holidays under certain conditions.

In Bavaria, bakeries can open for a maximum of three hours on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, while in North Rhine-Westphalia, they can open for up to five hours. Both states will see bakeries closed on Easter Monday. In Hesse, bakeries must close on all three holidays.

As the Easter holiday approaches, it’s essential for shoppers to plan ahead to avoid disappointment. With many businesses closed or operating on limited hours, ensuring you have all the necessary items before the holidays will make for a smoother experience. Whether you’re looking for fresh rolls, Easter bread, or just a quick grocery run, knowing the opening hours of local bakeries and supermarkets can save you from standing in front of closed doors.

So, as you prepare for Easter 2025, make sure to check the specific hours of the bakeries and supermarkets in Kempten to enjoy a delightful holiday weekend with fresh pastries and a well-stocked kitchen.
