Kemerovo Celebrates WWII Victory With Ski Marathon

The V ski marathon "Kuzbass-ski" recalls the 80th anniversary of Victory, inviting skiers of all ages to participate.

Kemerovo is gearing up to host the V ski marathon known as "Kuzbass-ski" on March 15, 2025, marking a significant occasion as it commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The event will take place at the ski complex "Snezhny," prominent for its suitability for such competitions.

The Kemerovo administration’s press service has officially announced the marathon, indicating it will take place under the prestigious Russialoppet series of ski marathons. This affiliation with Russialoppet ensures the marathon's adherence to high standards of competition and includes various categories to appeal to diverse participants.

Participants will have the opportunity to compete across multiple distances: the traditional freestyle races—50 km, 25 km, and 12.5 km—catering to seasoned athletes and competitive skiers. For younger competitors, the event features special categories: the "Mini" race where girls aged 10 to 12 can ski 1.5 km and boys ages 10 to 12 can compete over 3 km, emphasizing inclusivity and nurturing young talents.

For even younger children under the age of nine, there is the "Marsh baby" event comprising 600 meters of skiing, aiming to introduce the joy of skiing to kids at the earliest age. This race not only serves as competition but is also seen as a fun and engaging way to celebrate skiing as part of Kemerovo's local culture.

The starting point for the festivities will be on the boulevard named after academician L.S. Barbarash, 10, with the marathon officially commencing at noon. The event promises to be not just competitive but also festive, with supporters and families gathering to cheer on participants. It embodies the spirit of community solidarity and remembrance of historical events, honoring those who fought for victory.

Given the historical significance of the day, the marathon serves as more than just a sporting event; it’s an occasion for reflection on the sacrifices made during World War II and provides participants—ranging from elite skiers to local families—the chance to come together, establishing connections through shared experiences on the ski slopes.

Local businesses and organizations are expected to take part as sponsors and supporters, adding to the community's enthusiasm and contributing to the festive atmosphere surrounding the event. The enthusiasm for the marathon reflects Kemerovo's commitment to promoting sport and healthy lifestyles among its residents.

Overall, the V ski marathon "Kuzbass-ski" is set to become not only a thrilling showcase of skiing prowess but also a heartwarming community event commemorated together by both participants and spectators alike. Kemerovo’s ski marathon is ready to embrace skiers and citizens for this remarkable celebration, blending athletic competition with historical commemoration.
