Kelly Reilly, best known for her role as Beth Dutton in the hit series Yellowstone, is moving forward with exciting new projects that promise to showcase her talent in fresh ways. The actress is set to star in a new TV show titled Under Salt Marsh and an upcoming film called Last Meals, both of which are generating significant buzz.
In Last Meals, Reilly stars alongside Hollywood heavyweights Samuel L. Jackson and Boyd Holbrook. The film follows Jackson's character, Walter, a disgraced former White House chef who finds himself preparing the last meals for death row inmates. Walter forms a bond with Reed, a prisoner on hunger strike, believing he may be innocent of the crime for which he was convicted. Reilly plays Hannah, who aids Walter and Reed in their quest to confront the prison's politically motivated head, aiming to bring dignity and hope to the inmates. Currently in pre-production, Last Meals does not yet have a confirmed release date, but anticipation is high.
Meanwhile, Under Salt Marsh is a gripping crime thriller set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen. Reilly takes on the role of Jackie Ellis, a former detective turned teacher. The plot centers around Jackie discovering the body of her 8-year-old pupil, Cefin, who appears to have drowned. This tragic event reignites the unsolved case of her niece Nessa's disappearance, which had previously cost Jackie her career. As the storm approaches, Jackie's former partner, Detective Eric Bull, returns to lead the investigation, convinced that the two cases are linked. Together, they must uncover long-buried secrets in the community before the storm washes away all evidence.
Reilly's transition to these new projects comes on the heels of Yellowstone concluding in a tumultuous fashion. The series, which captivated audiences for five seasons, ended amid a public feud between creator Taylor Sheridan and lead actor Kevin Costner. Costner's departure from the show was marked by his character's dramatic demise in season five, a decision influenced by scheduling conflicts with his new project, Horizon. Sheridan expressed his disappointment in the situation, stating, "I’ve never had an issue with Kevin that he and I couldn’t work out on the phone… Once lawyers get involved, then people don’t get to talk to each other and start saying things that aren’t true and attempt to shift blame based on how the press or public seem to be reacting." He added, "He took a lot of this on the chin and I don’t know that anyone deserves it. [Horizon] seems to be a great priority to him and he wants to shift focus. I sure hope [the movie is] worth it — and that it’s a good one."
In other news from the world of Yellowstone, Piper Perabo, who played an environmental activist and Costner’s love interest in seasons four and five, is making her mark in another popular series, Grey’s Anatomy. Perabo is set to join the cast as Jenna Gatlin, a fierce mother of a nine-year-old boy named Dylan, who is a candidate for high-risk surgery. ABC confirmed that Perabo's debut will occur in the season 21 finale, with her first appearance scheduled for May 1, 2025, followed by additional appearances on May 8 and the season finale on May 15.
Throughout its more than two-decade run, Grey’s Anatomy has welcomed a wealth of guest stars, and Perabo is poised to add her name to that impressive list. The actress first gained fame from her role in the cult classic Coyote Ugly and has since appeared in numerous films, including Because I Said So, Cheaper by the Dozen, Looper, and The Prestige. She also starred in the spy drama Covert Affairs, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Drama.
With Reilly's new roles and Perabo's exciting addition to Grey’s Anatomy, fans of both actresses have much to look forward to in the coming months. As these talented performers continue to evolve in their careers, they are sure to captivate audiences with their new and diverse projects.
