Kazakhstan's 2025 Nauryz celebrations will feature an extensive series of events across the country, kicking off the decade of Nauryznama from March 14 through March 23, with over a thousand activities planned in major cities.
The traditional spring festival marks a time of renewal, unity, and prosperity, and this year, Kazakhs will enjoy an extended break to celebrate. Nauryz, falling on March 21, 22, and 23, leads to a five-day holiday through March 25 for those with a five-day workweek, while those on a six-day schedule will enjoy a four-day weekend.
As reported by Liter.kz, the public holiday law deems Nauryz a state holiday in Kazakhstan, ensuring that monumental events take place nationwide. Different regions have prepared unique programs that not only honor national traditions but also blend modern art, music, and technology elements.
In Almaty, the largest city, the festivities begin with a gala concert on March 21. The concert, titled “Almaty - in the Arms of Nauryz” will be held at Astana Square at 11:00 featuring performances by the Dos-Mukasan ensemble, Maira Mukhamedkyzy, the KeshYou group, and others. This is just the first of many events planned for the day.
The evening of March 21 will see the launch of the Juldyzdy Almaty festival at Astana Square, continuing into March 22. This festival will showcase renowned local artists and provide an evening filled with music.
Throughout the holiday period, Abai Square will transform into a hub of activity from March 21 to March 25. The Nauryz Fest will offer interactive yurts featuring VR installations, an exhibition of local craftsmen, masterclasses, and dinner concerts. This is part of a larger integration of the arts into the Nauryz celebrations.
Additionally, from March 20, musical performances and museum exhibitions will take center stage at metro stations across Almaty. This creative incorporation aims to draw in residents and visitors alike.
In the capital city, Astana, more than 200 large-scale events are planned, including concerts, exhibitions, and theatrical performances. On March 20, the festivities start with a national sports tournament held at various sports complexes, while family relay races known as “Alty Dala Oiyndary” will occur the following day.
The concert schedule features the “Dostyk Sazy” orchestra performing on March 21, along with a show of giant puppets, and competitions themed around Nauryz-Duman. On March 22, notable awards like the national prize “Nauryz Syilygy” will take place at the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation, while a play titled “Abai-Tozhgan” will be showcased at the Young Spectator's Musical Theater.
Seizing opportunities for community engagement, March 23 will witness eco-actions at centers and theaters throughout the city, coinciding with Earth Hour from 20:30 to 21:30.
In Shymkent, celebrations include poetry contests, exhibitions, and national costume festivals. Starting March 20, national games will commence at urban sports venues, leading up to ensemble music concerts at Astana Square on March 21. This particular day also includes a gala concert featuring prominent pop stars.
Meanwhile, Turkestan will be celebrating Nauryz with events highlighting its status as a spiritual capital. The program entails a football tournament named “Turan CUP” starting March 20, along with exhibitions of national crafts and performances from local artists.
As visitors engage in the festivities, a concert featuring “Mega Stars of the Turkish World” will also be set for March 22 at Almaty Arena, showcasing popular international artists like Sadraddin and Mustafa Sandal.
