Kazakhstan Secures EU Approval For Honey Exports

This milestone opens new avenues for trade and boosts the national agricultural sector.

Kazakhstan has officially received approval to export its honey to the European Union, marking a significant milestone for the nation's agriculture sector. This accomplishment was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture and confirmed by the European Commission as the formal notice was published on February 21, 2025.

The decision by the EU allows Kazakhstan to join the list of approved countries eligible to export honey, following extensive preparations. According to KazTAG, the Ministry of Agriculture stated, "Kazakhstan officially received permission to export honey to the European Union countries. This achievement is the result of years of work by the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan."

To acquire this valuable export approval, Kazakhstan developed and implemented the National Monitoring Plan for Residual Substances in Honey. This plan plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and quality of honey being exported to EU markets. The Ministry noted, "Kazakhstan developed and implemented the National Monitoring Plan for Residual Substances in Honey, which was a significant step for inclusion on the EU's list of approved exporters."

Throughout this process, there were numerous seminars, consultations, and compliance checks conducted to align with the stringent standards set by the EU. The efforts were aimed at ensuring the Kazakh honey meets the health and safety requirements laid out by European regulators.

The approval is set to take effect 20 days after its publication, allowing firms interested in exporting honey to the EU time to prepare. These businesses must undergo several procedures, including veterinary controls and the implementation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) systems. This compliance is necessary for companies wishing to participate fully in the European market for honey.

The Ministry has made it clear: meeting EU standards is no easy feat. It reflects Kazakhstan’s commitment to enhancing its agricultural export capacity through rigorous quality assurance programs. Honey producers aspiring to enter the EU market will now enjoy recognition of their product on the international stage.

This milestone is expected to have lasting impacts on Kazakhstan's agricultural sector, opening new avenues for export and potentially boosting small and medium-sized enterprises involved in honey production. By securing this trade route, Kazakhstan can position itself as a competitive player within the EU’s food market, known for high standards and quality assurance.

Overall, the approval of Kazakh honey exports presents promising opportunities not just for the honey producers but also for the broader agricultural economy, which could benefit from increased investments and trade relationships built on quality assurance and compliance with international standards.
