The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan recently released results from a survey examining the use and perception of artificial intelligence (AI) among the population. Conducted from March 3 to March 9, 2025, the survey attracted participation from over 53,000 citizens through the eGov mobile application.
The results indicate strong public engagement with AI technology and show promising enthusiasm for learning new skills. A significant 79% of respondents expressed their desire to acquire artificial intelligence skills, acknowledging the increasing importance of this technology for the future.
Notably, 65% of participants reported using AI on a daily basis, indicating its integration within everyday life, whereas 35% utilize AI technologies within their professional activities.
Despite the positive outlook, the survey also highlighted concerns about the impact of AI on employment. A total of 47% of participants believe human oversight is necessary, and 29% expressed worries about potential job losses resulting from AI's growing capabilities. Conversely, 22% of respondents were optimistic, confident AI would enable individuals to focus more on complex tasks rather than routine ones.
The survey also assessed the public's level of knowledge concerning AI. While 22% of respondents stated they are well-versed in this technology, 43% admitted to knowing about it but using it rarely. Alarmingly, 34% revealed they have little to no knowledge of AI.
Demographically, the survey showed the most active participants were aged between 30 to 45 years, making up 48% of those surveyed. This age group’s interest indicates the potential for technology adoption among working-age adults.
Commenting on the findings, Rostislav Konyashkin, Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, noted the significance of the results, saying: "We see huge demand for training digital skills from society, and this is a great opportunity for development. The ministry will continue working on creating accessible educational programs to help Kazakhs master artificial intelligence technologies. The survey results will serve as the foundation for new initiatives aimed at increasing access to digital solutions to make life more convenient and efficient."
Clearly, there is both excitement and apprehension surrounding AI among the people of Kazakhstan. The desire to learn and adapt to new technologies highlights the potential for growth and development within the community. The Ministry’s commitment to enhancing digital literacy through targeted educational initiatives may very well pave the way for Kazakhstan to embrace the future of artificial intelligence.
These findings reflect broader global trends, as populations worldwide grapple with the integration of AI technologies. Nevertheless, the Kazakhstani experience offers unique insights as it seeks to address workforce challenges and improve digital skills at the same time.
