Kauã Elias’s debut professional season with Fluminense has been nothing short of transformative. The 18-year-old forward faced considerable challenges, from initial struggles to becoming one of the club’s key players as the 2024 season unfolded.
Initially celebrated as one of Fluminense’s brightest young prospects, Kauã confronted significant adversity early on. His early career took a nosedive when he was suspended for indiscipline after attending a party before a pivotal match against Vasco. “The work continued the same way. To be honest, nothing changed internally. The change was mine. I had to reflect on everything and it was a learning experience. It must not happen again,” Kauã reflected on his setback.
This episode marked a turning point for Kauã. Regaining his spot on the team under coach Mano Menezes, he swiftly proved his worth on the field. With the departure of coach Fernando Diniz and the injury to Germán Cano, Kauã stepped up as the primary striker when the team needed him most, especially as they faced the threat of relegation.
This season, the spotlight was particularly intense. “I think it was a very exhausting season, overall, yet highly productive for me personally. It was my first year at Fluminense, and I entered the team with the season already underway. Each match felt practically like a final,” he noted, acknowledging the pressure of heavy expectations.
Kauã’s relationship with Germán Cano—a seasoned veteran and key player for Fluminense—has greatly influenced his development. The young striker regards Cano as “an example for everyone,” citing his professionalism and achievements, particularly during the club’s triumphant run to win the Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores. “What can you say about a player who had the season he did? He was fundamental to winning the greatest achievement in Fluminense’s history,” Kauã shared.
With seven goals scored this season—six of which were key for Fluminense's triumphs over teams like Cuiabá and São Paulo—Kauã played a pivotal role. His contributions allowed the team to secure important victories, often scoring match-winning goals. This rapid ascent has not only showcased his skills but also confirmed his ability to perform under pressure.
Kauã attributed his success to the guidance and belief instilled by Coach Mano Menezes, saying, “It is a privilege to work with him. He is also a winner, bringing this winning mentality to Fluminense and granting me many opportunities. He believed in me from day one.” It’s clear this coaching relationship has had a significant impact on his confidence and performance.
Entering the final stretch of the season, the young forward maintained optimistic aspirations for the team. “The fulfillment would come completely if my goals and this process were accompanied by the club’s victories. The collective is always the main focus. Fluminense is always the priority,” Kauã expressed, emphasizing his commitment to the team. He looks forward to the upcoming season with determination, signaling his desire to help Fluminense avoid the struggles of the 2024 campaign and striving to achieve greater personal and team success.
He also acknowledged how important it is to maintain humility and work hard under pressure: “I had my positive moments, scored important goals, and, most significantly, contributed to our fight to stay in Serie A. It’s about maintaining what I did well and improving wherever necessary. Humility to handle both good and bad moments will be my focus for my career.”
The 2024 season has allowed Kauã to garner valuable experience, signaling what fans hope will be the beginning of a bright future for both him and Fluminense as they prepare for 2025, which presents new challenges, including the much-anticipated Club World Cup.
