Hyderabad: The makers of Sardar 2, the much-anticipated spy thriller directed by P S Mithran, released the film’s first look poster on Monday, March 31, 2025. Director Mithran shared the poster on his social media, writing, “Brace yourself for an epic showdown. #Sardar2 first look poster is here.” The film’s prologue will be available from 12:45 PM on the same day.
The poster features actor Karthi with an intense expression, holding a Katana, a traditional Japanese sword used by samurai. Sardar 2 is currently in its final stages of filming, and with the first installment being a massive success, expectations for the sequel are high. While the first film saw Karthi in dual roles, playing both a RAW agent and his son, a police officer, the sequel follows the son as he becomes a spy for the Indian government and heads to Cambodia.
The film stars Karthi, Rajisha Vijayan, SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Aashiq Rangnath, and Sajal Ahmed. Music is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The excitement surrounding the film escalated further as the prologue for Sardar 2 was also released, revealing that actor SJ Suryah plays the main antagonist, known as Black Dagger.
After an exclusive screening of the prologue for the media, director Mithran stated, “I think SJ Suryah had already made up his mind to do the film. He agreed immediately even before I could complete narrating the script.” He explained that the seed for Sardar 2 was sown during the making of the first film, where he realized that the character of Sardar would be a long-standing one, allowing for many stories to be told.
Mithran elaborated that Sardar 2 will serve as both a prequel and sequel, detailing Sardar’s first assignment as a flashback before returning to present-day events, which will also mark Sardar’s last mission. “Karthi and I spoke about this story and finalized it on a flight. But making this required a large canvas. I thank producer Lakshman sir for having faith in this story and investing in it,” he said.
The prologue opens with Sardar neutralizing a person called Cheng after a fierce battle with some of Cheng’s guards in China. Cheng, before his death, mocks Sardar, stating that the issue is not going to end with him and that a massive destruction is to befall India. Cheng warns that all intelligence agencies are pointing towards the Black Dagger and that he is coming soon. He ominously adds that a colossal war is about to break out and challenges Sardar to save himself and his country if he can.
Sardar responds, indicating that in his country, if it came down to war, life mattered very little. This intense exchange sets the stage for the conflict that will unfold in the film.
Alongside Karthi and Rajisha Vijayan, Sardar 2 features a stellar cast including SJ Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Aashika Rangnath, and Sajal Ahmed. The technical team boasts impressive credentials, with cinematography by George Williams and music by Sam C S. Editing for the film is being handled by Ruben, while art direction is by K Kadhir. The stunts have been choreographed by Dhilip Subbarayan, ensuring high-octane action sequences.
