Kansas City Chiefs Star Xavier Worthy Sues Ex-Fiancée Over Abuse Claims

Xavier Worthy alleges Tia Jones fabricated domestic violence claims to extort him after discovering her infidelity.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has filed a lawsuit against his ex-fiancée Tia Jones, alleging she engaged in a scheme to abuse him and fabricate claims of domestic violence. This legal conflict has unfolded shortly after Worthy's arrest in early March 2025 for allegedly strangling a family or household member. Worthy claims his former fiancée’s actions were designed to extort money and valuables from him following a discovery of her infidelity.

The couple, who were engaged in July 2024, saw their relationship implode when, in late February 2025, Worthy learned that Jones had been unfaithful. Following this revelation, he allegedly requested several times over a 12-day period that she leave their home, offering to assist her in finding nearby accommodations. However, Jones reportedly refused his offers and instead became increasingly aggressive.

On March 7, during a tense dispute, Worthy accuses Jones of destroying his game room—damaging significant property, including his gaming console, and physically assaulting him by scratching his face and tearing out chunks of his hair. The incident culminated in Worthy’s arrest the following day. Despite this, the Williamson County District Attorney subsequently declined to file criminal charges against him, citing a lack of evidence.

In response to the allegations and seeking reparations, Worthy filed a civil lawsuit in Williamson County on March 24, seeking damages ranging between $250,000 and $1 million. In his court documents, he alleges that Jones fabricated claims of domestic violence to extort a home, money, cars, and other valuables from him. "Defendant Jones became enraged and engaged in a series of abusive, extortive efforts against Plaintiff, destroying his game room and physically assaulting him," his lawsuit states.

During Worthy’s time in police custody, Jones is alleged to have stolen or destroyed over $150,000 in cash and property, including a handgun, a substantial cash amount, and various personal items. These allegations paint a stark image of a relationship that turned tumultuous amidst personal betrayals.

Jones, in her filings, has painted a contrasting narrative, accusing Worthy of multiple instances of physical abuse throughout their relationship. She claimed in her legal statement that the March 7 altercation was the most violent incident yet. Worthy’s representatives have been proactive in disputing these claims, denouncing them as baseless and indicative of an intent to harm Worthy’s image and career.

"We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy's arrest, and we are currently working with the authorities to ensure they have all the information surrounding this case," read a statement from Worthy's legal team, emphasizing that the claims made against him are unfounded. Meanwhile, Jones’s attorney, Angelica Cogliano, expressed her commitment to seeing Jones's side of the story validated, stating, "Ms. Jones has chosen to use her voice to speak up for herself, and she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through formal legal processes."

This lawsuit is not only a personal confrontation between two athletes who shared a brief engagement but also raises uncomfortable questions about domestic violence dynamics, the implications of false allegations, and the need for accountability in such matters. As the case develops, it will likely attract considerable media attention, highlighting the complexities of relationships played out in the public eye.

Diving deeper into Worthy's standing as a professional athlete, he was a prominent rookie for the Chiefs in 2024, achieving significant recognition with a total of 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, alongside key playoff performances. As he prepares for his sophomore season under a four-year, $13 million rookie contract, the ongoing lawsuit could have far-reaching consequences for his reputation and career.

With both sides entrenched in their respective narratives, the legal proceedings will determine not only potential financial outcomes but also the lasting impact on both Worthy and Jones's lives and careers. As this case unfolds in court, it remains a poignant reminder of the personal challenges that can transpire behind the façade of public personas.
