Kano State Government Restructures Cabinet With New Appointments

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf introduces fresh leadership to strengthen governance and development efforts.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has made significant new appointments to his cabinet, striving to bolster his administration's commitment to effective governance and development initiatives. The fresh appointments, which took effect immediately on Sunday, are seen as part of the governor's strategic plan to reorganize his team to improve public service delivery.

Among the newly appointed officials, Hon. Ahmad Muhammad has been designated Special Adviser on Publicity. His extensive experience includes serving three terms as Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government and as the former State Organizing Secretary for the All Progressive Congress (APC). Engr. Ahmad was also appointed as Special Adviser on Works, reflecting the administration’s renewed emphasis on infrastructure development across the state.

Another notable appointment is Malam Sani Abdullahi Tofa, who has been named Special Adviser on Special Duties. His credentials are impressive, having served as a Khadi of the Sharia Court both in Kano and Abuja, as well as holding positions as a retired Permanent Secretary within the Kano State Civil Service and former Director General of the Kano State Shari’a Commission.

Alongside these appointments, the Governor has also named Hon. Ibrahim Jibrin Fagge as Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, and Hajia Ladidi Ibrahim Garko as Chairman of the Kano State Civil Service Commission. Both appointees were formerly commissioners for Finance and Tourism, respectively.

The swearing-in ceremony for these new officials is scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. This event will take place at the Ante-Chamber of the Kano Government House and will also include the inauguration of seven nominees recently confirmed by the Kano State House of Assembly.

Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for Governor Yusuf, noted, "These appointments underline Governor Yusuf’s commitment to assembling a competent team to drive the state’s development agenda." This statement emphasizes the intent behind the leadership changes and their expected impact.

During the ceremony, Governor Yusuf conveyed his expectations for the new commissioners, urging them to remain dedicated and committed to their positions. "Your appointments were made after careful selection of capable individuals who can contribute to our efforts in achieving good governance in the state," he stated, reinforcing the responsibility placed on each appointee.

The new commissioners include Ibrahim Wayya (Information), Shehu Wada Sagagi (Investment, Commerce and Industry), Dahiru Muhammad Hashim (Environment), Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya (Finance), Gaddafi Shehu (Power and Sustainable Energy), Abdulkadir Abdulsalam (Rural and Community Development), and Nura Iro Maaji (Public Procurement).

Shehu Wada Sagagi, who serves as the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce, and Industry, expressed the group's collective gratitude to the governor, assuring him, "We would work tirelessly to justify the trust reposed in us." Such statements reflect the high levels of commitment expected from the newly appointed members of the government.

This restructuring within the Kano State Government follows the resignation of the former Commissioner of Works, Engr. Muhammad Diggol. His departure, reportedly without specific reasons publicly stated, coincided with broader changes to the state's leadership following the confirmation of new cabinet members by the Kano State House of Assembly. Governor Yusuf had previously acknowledged Diggol's contributions to his administration, wishing him well for his future endeavors.

With these appointments, Governor Yusuf aims to create a responsive administration dedicated to prioritizing key areas such as infrastructure, education, health, women's and youth empowerment, water supply, and agricultural enhancement. The adjustments made reflect his strategic plan to align the state's governance framework with its developmental goals, ensuring efficient management of public resources and service delivery to the people of Kano.

The developments arising from this cabinet reshuffle could signal greater political changes within Kano as Governor Yusuf focuses on reinforcing his leadership's effectiveness. Observers are eager to see how these new appointments will influence the dynamics of governance and if they can effectively address the pressing needs of the state.

Overall, the introduction of fresh leadership intentions marks a proactive step by Governor Yusuf to reshape the governance of Kano State, showcasing his commitment to not just maintaining, but enhancing the quality of public service. The forthcoming swearing-in ceremony is anticipated as the next pivotal moment for the freshly assembled team to publicly affirm their readiness to serve.
