The Kano State Government has undergone significant changes this week, as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presided over the swearing-in of seven new commissioners and twelve advisers, marking a strategic cabinet reshuffle aimed at enhancing governance and addressing public needs.
The ceremony, held at the Government House on Monday, saw new appointees stepping forward to take their oaths of office. Governor Yusuf expressed his expectations for these individuals to be committed and dedicated to the service of the people. He urged them to work tirelessly to meet the demands of Kano's citizens, emphasizing the importance of integrity and teamwork.
Among the newly appointed commissioners are Ibrahim Waiya as Commissioner for Information, Shehu Wada Sagagi as Commissioner for Investment, Commerce, and Industries, Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya as Commissioner for Finance, Shehu Sani as Commissioner for Power and Sustainable Energy, Dahiru Hashimu as Commissioner for Environment, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam as Commissioner for Rural Development, and Wada Ma’aji as Commissioner for Public Procurement. Each appointee brings their own expertise to these pivotal roles.
Governor Yusuf highlighted the need for this new cabinet to prioritize the extensive needs of the Kano populace. “The demands of the people of Kano are many, and we must unite to deliver positive results,” he asserted, indicating the administration's commitment to improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and empowerment for women and youth.
The reshuffle is also seen as part of the governor's efforts to sustain the legacy of former leaders and to align with the developmental goals laid out by the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP). Notably, the Deputy National Chairman of the NNPP, Prince Nwaeze Onu, praised Yusuf’s dedication to education and healthcare during his tenure, recognizing the continuity of good governance established by his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso.
Governor Yusuf is determined not only to maintain this legacy but to expand it, ensuring his administration is responsive to the pressing issues faced by the state. “I remain fully committed to fulfilling my campaign promises,” he emphasized, stating his intention for these appointments to help implement policies and programs beneficial to citizens’ lives.
The new cabinet members will be responsible for tackling various challenges, from enhancing infrastructure to improving healthcare delivery. This cabinet reshuffle may be precisely the change needed to reinvigorate the administration and successfully navigate the needs of Kano State.
The ceremony also included the announcement of financial support for media activities as part of broader engagement with the public. Governor Yusuf allocated N30 million for the Kwankwasiyya Media Forum, asserting the importance of media partnerships in disseminatign information about the government's initiatives.
With these changes, many observers hope the Kano State Government will experience revitalized momentum toward achieving its objectives, especially as it grapples with societal challenges. The governor concluded by calling for unity among his new team, asserting, “We must work together to achieve our shared goals.”
