Kanna Hashimoto is set to take on the role of the eccentric genius doctor for the first time as she stars in the upcoming TV drama "Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte," which will premiere on TV Tokyo starting April 22, 2025. This marks Hashimoto's first leading role following her starring performance in the NHK continuous TV novel "Omu Suzume," which concludes at the end of March 2025.
The new drama, based on the popular medical mystery series by author Mikihito Chinen, features doctors who solve various cases utilizing their medical knowledge and diagnostic skills. Hashimoto portrays Takao Ameku, who possesses astonishing intelligence and serves as the head of the Comprehensive Diagnosis Department.
With this role, Hashimoto will step out of her comfort zone and face the challenges of playing a doctor, which also involves managing complex medical terminology and lengthy dialogues. Reflecting on her excitement, Hashimoto shared, "I have been excited ever since I heard about the drama, especially because I loved the original novel. I hope to connect with Takao’s character visually and emotionally as I prepare for this role. I’m ready to tackle the filming process, and I genuinely want to enjoy portraying Dr. Takao!"
Miura Shohei plays Yu Takano, an internal medicine doctor who becomes Ameku's partner within the Comprehensive Diagnosis Department. He expressed enthusiasm for the task, stating, "I enjoyed reading the novel as the blend of medical and mystery aspects is quite intriguing. Even though the lines are long and challenging, I’m excited to portray Takano and see how his character interacts with Takao. I trust Kanna as my partner!"
The script for "Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte" is penned by Hideya Hamada, who has previously worked on renowned dramas like "Absolute Zero - Unsolved Case Special Investigations," and it is directed by his associate, Hisashi Kimura, known for the "TRICK" series. The blend of mystery, suspense, comedy, and human stories is expected to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
Author Mikihito Chinen expressed his joy to see his work adapted to screen, especially with such talented actors like Hashimoto and Miura taking the lead roles. He shared, "It makes me incredibly happy to see the beautiful portrayal of the characters I created. I can't wait to see how Hashimoto and Miura bring the world of 'Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte' to life!"
The show has garnered immense popularity due to the original novel series surpassing 3.6 million copies sold, and it has even inspired anime adaptations which launched its broadcast earlier this year. Viewers will get to watch the teaser Tuesday night during the airing of "Kaseifu no Mitazono."
With the first episode set to air on April 22, 2025, this series promises to astound viewers with its innovative storytelling style, where challenges will arise not only from medical cases but also from the interpersonal dynamics of its characters, solidifying the drama's potential to be the next big hit of the season.
