The Dutch rock band Kane has officially announced their decision to disband after a final concert at Ahoy Rotterdam, marking the end of a significant chapter in their musical journey. Singer Dinand Woesthoff shared the news during an appearance on NPO Radio 2's program Jan-Willem Start Op! on March 28, 2025.
Kane, formed in 1998 by Woesthoff and guitarist Dennis van Leeuwen, first gained fame with their debut album As Long As You Want This in 1999, featuring hits like "Damn Those Eyes" and "Rain Down on Me." The band initially disbanded in 2014 but made a surprising comeback in 2023, following the release of a documentary about their career.
Reflecting on their decision to stop, Woesthoff said, "We knew that if we started again, we would also end it ourselves on our own terms." This sentiment was echoed by Van Leeuwen, who emphasized their commitment to not just fade away: "We are not the type to go into hibernation; when we do something, we go all out. Even when we played for just four people, we performed as if it were in a stadium, and that’s how we will continue to do it."
The final farewell concert is set for October 18, 2025, at Ahoy Rotterdam, a venue that holds special significance for the band, as they have performed there numerous times over the years. Woesthoff remarked, "Ahoy has always been our favorite place to perform. This will be our tenth show there, and we are incredibly grateful for all the support we’ve received."
Prior to the farewell concert, the band will also perform a special additional show on October 17, 2025. Tickets for this extra performance went on sale on March 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM and are expected to sell out quickly, as indicated by the concert organizer Agents After All.
In the lead-up to their final shows, Kane has been actively engaging with fans, having recently performed five sold-out shows at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. Their return to the stage has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from fans, as they played to a combined audience of 140,000 people across these performances.
Woesthoff expressed gratitude for the band's journey and the experiences they’ve shared with their fans, stating, "It’s overwhelming what we have been allowed to experience. We want to give everything we have during our final performances, both with new and old songs from the album we are still set to release."
As Kane prepares for their last chapter, the band members are taking time to reflect on their legacy and the impact they have made over the past 25 years. The decision to end their journey comes with mixed emotions, as they hope fans will leave the final concert feeling fulfilled and appreciative of the band's contributions to the music scene.
"What I hope is that people will come out of Ahoy and say, 'They don’t have to stop; it was fantastic!'" Van Leeuwen added, highlighting the bittersweet nature of their farewell. "We’re going to give it our all, and it’s going to be a memorable night for everyone involved."
The announcement of Kane's disbandment has resonated deeply with fans, many of whom have grown up listening to their music. The band's ability to connect with audiences through powerful lyrics and memorable melodies has solidified their place in the Dutch rock landscape.
As the date of their final concert approaches, anticipation is building among fans eager to witness the band's last performance together. Kane's legacy will undoubtedly live on through their music, and their impact on the Dutch music scene will be remembered for years to come.
In summary, Kane's decision to stop performing is not just an end but a celebration of their journey. With heartfelt performances planned for their farewell shows, the band aims to leave a lasting impression on their fans, ensuring that their music continues to resonate long after the final curtain falls.
