On April 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., Kan Chomphulang, a public figure known for his activism, appeared at the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau to present evidence related to online gambling activities allegedly linked to SP. Sai Mai. Accompanied by his attorney, Kan aimed to prompt an investigation into individuals promoting gambling websites on social media.
Kan, who has been actively involved in a high-profile case concerning an elderly couple severely injured by a local politician's BMW, expressed his ongoing concern for the welfare of the victims and the broader implications of online gambling. "After taking the case, I’ve been continuously monitoring the situation, and it seems like the associates of the perpetrator are starting to voice their opinions online. I felt it was necessary to investigate who these individuals are," he explained.
During his investigation, Kan discovered a shirt worn by one of the individuals that featured the phrase "Bet is not a normal bet," along with the numbers "888" and the word "casino." He captured a screenshot of this and submitted it to the authorities, suspecting it might indicate illegal gambling activities. "I want the police to look into this and see if there are any violations connected to the Cyber Police," he stated.
Kan also noted that the number "888" is often associated with luck in gambling circles. "I’ve heard that this number is frequently used by online gambling groups, as it is believed to attract more players. However, I’m uncertain if this particular website has faced legal action before," he added.
In a show of determination, Kan urged the public to share any additional information they might have regarding the gambling activities. "If anyone has more details, please send them my way. I’ll ensure they reach the police," he said, expressing confidence in the Cyber Police's ability to conduct a thorough investigation.
Kan also addressed the ongoing threats from his adversaries, particularly from Tao Mongkolkittitharak, who allegedly placed a bounty of 1 million baht on his head, with half already deposited. "I told him to focus on his own issues rather than threaten me. I’m not worried about these threats; I’m here to help the community, not to exploit it," Kan asserted.
In response to accusations that he was involved in illegal gambling, Kan declared his readiness to fight back legally. "If anyone claims I’m running a gambling site, I’ll have my lawyer take action against them. I’ve been transparent throughout this process, and I’m not hiding anything," he said.
Kan emphasized that the situation surrounding the elderly couple remains critical, with one still in the ICU and the other recovering. He also clarified that the family of the victims is actively seeking financial support for medical bills, dismissing rumors that they had refused assistance from the perpetrator's side.
"The family is in a tough spot. They even considered pawning their belongings to cover medical expenses. I’ve been in contact with the hospital director to ensure they receive the help they need," Kan explained, underlining his commitment to the victims.
Pol.Lt.Gen. Torrarong Phiuphan, head of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, acknowledged receiving the evidence from Kan and confirmed that they would conduct a detailed investigation into the claims. "We will look into the information provided, especially the use of the number 888 and any potential links to illegal gambling operations," he stated.
As the investigation unfolds, Kan Chomphulang remains resolute in his mission to uncover the truth behind the alleged online gambling operations and to support the victims of the accident. "I believe in justice and that this matter will be clarified. I’m here for the people and will continue to fight against wrongdoing in our community," he concluded.
