Kamil Grosicki has established himself as not only the captain of Pogoń Szczecin but also as their shining star since his return to the team back in August 2021. Over his tenure, he has made significant contributions to the club with impressive statistics, scoring 45 goals and providing 42 assists across 133 matches. Beyond the metrics, Grosicki plays a pivotal role as a mentor to the aspiring young talents at the club.
Recently, Grosicki shared his insights on young players during his interaction with Super Express, pinpointing Adrian Przyborek as the one with the most potential. "I believe Adrian Przyborek is getting increasingly impressive. He’s entering his second season in the top league, and I see him standing out more this round. He scored against Stal, which will only bolster his confidence. He has the greatest talent of them all but needs to work hard because talent alone won’t carry him through," Grosicki said. His praise for Przyborek highlights the faith he has not only in his potential but also the importance of diligence.
The 18-year-old Przyborek joined Pogoń Szczecin after making his way through the club's youth ranks. Since February 2023, he has made 51 appearances for the senior team, netting two goals and assisting nine times. Notably, he has gained recognition overseas, with The Guardian listing him among the most promising talents of his age group.
Pogoń Szczecin has enjoyed success recently, and much of this spark can be attributed to Grosicki’s own performance. This spring, he scored three goals and provided one assist, creating waves of influence around him. Reflecting on the team’s approach, Grosicki expressed, "You could say I can't recall having such a good start to any season. The stats speak for themselves. I’m pleased because it shows I’ve worked well during the preparatory period, and the coach has done excellent work preparing us. With every match, our confidence grows stronger."
The contributions of young players, as acknowledged by Grosicki, have been undeniable. He noted, "My young teammates lift me up, and I, them. We support each other. I see how they are developing, scoring goals, and providing assists, which warms my heart. Together, we can achieve much as a team because my experience is priceless when paired with their youthful exuberance and creativity."
On the subject of the club's recent shifts including new ownership, Grosicki welcomed the changes, expressing hope for the future. "I believe I’ll be able to say more about this soon since the new owners have to put everything together. My new era with the club will commence when talk surrounding Pogoń revolves solely around on-field matters, which is my main concern."
While focusing on football, Grosicki also touched on the financial challenges facing the club. He acknowledged the issues but advocated for maintaining focus on their performance, stating, "If we were to dwell on problems, we wouldn't be ourselves, and it wouldn’t bode well on the field. We must focus on what we can control to keep our spirits high for the fans."
Looking to the future, Grosicki remains optimistic about potential transfers and improvements within the club. He mentioned important discussions surrounding player values, referencing recent moves as well: "We must focus on having beneficial transfers, allowing players to move for reasonable sums, so the club stands to gain, rather than letting them go for laughable fees because of our financial issues."
Grosicki’s dual role as a stellar player and mentor shapes not only his legacy within Pogoń Szczecin but also the club’s direction moving forward. While celebrating his individual successes, he remains intricately connected to the team’s ambitions, nurturing the next generation of talent and fostering hope for brighter days. His infectious enthusiasm demonstrates his immense commitment to the club, and fans are eagerly anticipating how he will continue to shape Pogoń Szczecin's future.
