Kamensk-Uralsky Honors Fallen Soldier And Cultural Achievements

The community reflects on recent losses and celebrates creativity with local events and initiatives.

On March 3, 2025, the city of Kamensk-Uralsky held a solemn farewell ceremony for Pavel Baboshin, a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice during his service. Baboshin, who enlisted with the Ministry of Defense in September 2024, had been awarded medals for his dedication, including the Ministry of Emergency Situations medal for demining and the medal for participants of special military operations. He died from injuries sustained in January, which were not compatible with life. During the poignant ceremony, Deputy Head of the City District Denis Nesterov reflected on Baboshin's bravery, stating, "The fourth year of the special military operation is underway. Each day brings us closer to victory. Pavel Baboshin, like many other soldiers, gave the most precious thing – his life – so we could have peaceful skies over our heads, and our children would not know fear. Light be upon this brave warrior." Baboshin was honored with military honors and laid to rest at Volkovsky Cemetery, alongside other honorable citizens.

Simultaneously, Kamensk-Uralsky has been reinforcing its commitment to combat terrorism. The city’s Antiterrorism Commission convened recently to review the results of the 2024 program aimed at preventing terrorism, which seeks to minimize its manifestations and educate the public on its dangers. Significant funds have been allocated toward ensuring safety across public venues, with stewardship entrusted to various municipal authorities, including education and culture departments.

Significant achievements have emerged from the initiative; 235 training sessions were conducted to prepare for potential terrorist threats, and 560 events were organized to promote anti-terrorism ideologies. A budget exceeding 45 million rubles was spent, with nearly 33 million directed toward securing cultural and educational venues. Key improvements were made to surveillance and safety systems, enhancing community protection efforts.

This strong proactive stance against terrorism has yielded promising outcomes, as local officials reported no incidents of terrorism linked to foreign nationals residing in Kamensk-Uralsky, where 3,634 foreigners were registered last year. Among them, Tajiks, Uzbeks, and Kyrgyz accounted for the majority. The city remains vigilant with enhanced oversight of the social and economic trends affecting community safety.

On March 1, literary enthusiasts gathered at the Youth Cultural Center to celebrate the annual results of the "Crystal Slipper" children's fairy tale competition. Despite no winner receiving the titular grand prize this year, several young participants were recognized for their creativity, with awards for the "Most Wise Tale" going to Veronika Cherkashina, and "Best Family Stories" awarded to Nikita Mikhalyov and his mother, alongside Aksonya Shchepareva. Other categories noted equally talented young writers, showcasing the city’s cultural vibrancy and engagement with the arts.

Community support was evident, as sponsors like "Romantika" store and "Living Word" bookstore were thanked for their continued backing of community endeavors. The event reminded attendees of the importance of nurturing young talent and encouraging creative expression among the youth.

The heartfelt nature of these events highlights the resilience of Kamensk-Uralsky citizens as they navigate complex realities shaped by loss, security concerns, and the joy of cultural celebrations. These narratives not only bind the community but also serve as platforms for remembrance and progress.

Looking forward, the city aims to build on its achievements against terrorism and continue to support local creativity, making Kamensk-Uralsky not only safer but also richer in culture. The pathway toward healing from losses like Baboshin’s will require fostering unity through initiatives, remembrance, and cultural engagement, ensuring the sacrifices of its heroes are never forgotten and their lessons continue to resonate.

With new faces and families integrating within the community, the legacy of service and sacrifice remains firmly anchored, propelling Kamensk-Uralsky toward continued growth and strength. The active involvement of community members, along with vigilance against threats, provides a stronger future for the city.

Events like the closing of the "Crystal Slipper" competition and the farewell to Pavel Baboshin encapsulate the spirit of Kamensk-Uralsky—a community unwavering amid challenges, cherishing memories, and celebrating creativity. Through these narratives, the essence of hope and resilience shines bright.
