Iconic Dance Instructor Explores Future Jury Role While Leading Unique Challenges

In a much-anticipated twist for fans of the popular dance competition show, Kamel Ouali made a special appearance as an additional judge on the April 28, 2023, episode of Danse avec les stars. This prime-time event, broadcast on TF1, saw Ouali joining established judges Chris Marques, Fauve Hautot, Mel Charlot, and Jean-Marc Généreux, adding an exciting dynamic to the evening.

Ouali, known for his role as a dance instructor on the reality show Star Academy, was not just a guest judge; he was given the same authority as his fellow judges. As reported by Le Parisien, he was set to challenge the contestants with unique tasks, enhancing the competitive atmosphere of the show.

Reflecting on his participation, Ouali shared insights about his past discussions regarding a permanent role on the judging panel. "In the first year of the show, I had lunch with Nonce Paolini, the former CEO of TF1, and we talked about it. But I was coming off of Star Ac and was heading into other projects," he explained. Despite his commitments, he expressed satisfaction with his current involvement, stating, "I’m even more pleased to come for one evening and spend a week with the team."

While he has not been officially approached for a permanent role, Ouali remains open to future opportunities. "I’m waiting for proposals, and then I’ll make my decision. I apply this to Star Ac, my heart's show. If one day I were to do it again, I would be very happy, but again, it's a matter of timing," he said.

During the special episode, titled La bataille des juges, each judge was set to dance alongside two couples, showcasing their skills under Ouali's watchful eye. The lineup included Mel Charlot dancing with Adil Rami and Ana Riera, as well as Julie Zenatti and Adrien Caby. Fauve Hautot was paired with Elsa Bois and Florent Manaudou, and Ève Gilles and Nino Mosa. Chris Marques' team featured Jungeli and Inès Vandamme, along with Claude Dartois and Katrina Patchett. Jean-Marc Généreux was set to perform with Lénie and Jordan Mouillerac, and Mayane and Christophe Licata.

In addition to his judging duties, Ouali, now 53, created a brand-new ballet specifically for this evening, involving his troupe of 20 dancers from the Paradis Latin alongside those from the show. This innovative performance was anticipated to add a spectacular flair to the event.

The excitement surrounding Ouali's appearance highlights the show's ability to evolve and keep audiences engaged. As TF1 continues to innovate its format, the addition of a fifth judge with equal powers promises to enhance the competitive spirit among the dancers.

As the evening unfolded, viewers were treated to a vibrant display of talent and creativity, with Ouali's challenges pushing the contestants to new limits. This special episode not only showcased the dancers' skills but also underscored Ouali's significant contributions to the dance community and his potential future in television.

In summary, Kamel Ouali's participation as an additional judge on Danse avec les stars marks a significant moment in the show's history. His openness to future opportunities and the excitement of the special episode reflect a dynamic shift in the competition format, promising fans an engaging viewing experience.
