A troubling incident unfolded on March 17, 2025, at approximately 1:50 PM, when a train on the JR Kagoshima Line failed to stop at the designated position at Sasabaru Station in Fukuoka City. The train, which was coming from Fukanoka and was heading to Futsukaichi, overran the stopping point by about seven meters. This error occurred due to the driver feeling drowsy, which delayed the application of the brakes.
According to reports, the train, which had six cars, encountered complications that made it impossible for passengers to board or alight from the first and second cars. To remedy this, the conductor took the step of operating the doors on all cars to facilitate a temporary opening and closing for verification. However, this decision led to a precarious situation when at least two passengers were caught in the doors. One of the affected individuals complained of shoulder pain following the incident.
The underlying cause of this alarming situation has been attributed to a lack of prior warning to passengers regarding the opening and closing of the doors during this safety check. Reports from JR Kyushu indicated that the train had already experienced a delay of approximately ten minutes before departing from Sasabaru Station.
On the day of the incident, around 300 passengers were aboard the train. At Sasabaru Station, roughly 70 passengers alighted, while about 10 boarded.
