JR East Japan Announces Train Service Disruptions

Sections of Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines will be suspended for airport access line construction.

JR East Japan has announced that sections of the Yamanote Line and Keihin-Tohoku Line will be partially suspended for two days, April 19 and April 20, 2025. This disruption is due to construction work related to the new 'Haneda Airport Access Line', which aims to provide a direct connection between Haneda Airport and the Tokyo metropolitan area.

For the Yamanote Line, the outer loop will see service halted between Ueno Station and Osaki Station starting from the first train on April 19, with operations resuming around noon on April 20. Meanwhile, the inner loop will be suspended between Osaki Station and Ueno Station from the first train until 5 AM on April 19, and again from the first train until noon on April 20.

The Keihin-Tohoku Line will also be affected, with service between Higashi-Jujo Station and Shinagawa Station suspended from the first train on April 19 until noon on April 20. These interruptions are part of a broader effort to enhance access to the airport, which is a critical hub for both domestic and international travelers.

During the service interruptions, JR East Japan will also reduce the number of trains running on the operating sections to between 40% and 80% of normal service levels. This reduction aims to accommodate the ongoing construction while still providing some level of service to commuters and travelers.

Passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra travel time due to the reduced services and the suspension of certain lines. The construction of the 'Haneda Airport Access Line' is a significant project that promises to streamline transportation options for those traveling to and from the airport, which is located just a few kilometers from downtown Tokyo.

As the construction progresses, JR East Japan is committed to keeping the public informed about any changes to train schedules and services. The company emphasizes the importance of this project in improving connectivity for the millions of passengers who rely on the Yamanote and Keihin-Tohoku lines daily.

In summary, travelers should be prepared for the upcoming disruptions on April 19 and 20, as JR East Japan undertakes essential construction work to enhance access to Haneda Airport. The new access line is expected to significantly improve travel times and convenience for passengers, making it easier to navigate between the airport and the bustling city of Tokyo.
