José Mota Returns With New Comedy Show

The popular comedian aims to bring laughter back to Friday nights on La 1.

La 1 has officially launched its latest comedy venture, 'José Mota No News', aiming to provide audiences with humor and lighthearted entertainment. Scheduled to premiere this Friday, February 14, at 21:50, the program seeks to carve out its niche within La 1's prime-time slot.

Hosted by the renowned comedian José Mota and co-hosted by Patricia Conde, this engaging new show is set to feature notable guests from various sectors, including art, sports, and media. Notable contributors include seasoned entertainers Santiago Segura and Florentino Fernández, who are expected to bring their unique flair to weekly segments.

According to María Eizaguirre, director of Communication and Participation at RTVE, “José Mota returns home after his tremendous New Year's Eve success, backed by over 30% audience share, with more than 6 million viewers.” The show's purpose is to create an escape from the barrage of bad news, providing laughter and joy to its audience.

The director of Originals at RTVE, Ana María Bordas, emphasized the show’s heritage, stating, “José Mota has been part of this channel since 1989, and he’s integral to our humor programming, bringing insightful critiques about social issues.” Mota himself describes this project as “a place to disconnect from everything outside” and aims for it to be “a fun experience for everyone who joins the program.”

A significant highlight of 'José Mota No News' is the inclusion of a female-led band, which Mota believes will seamlessly blend music with humor. “It’s the best thing to happen to our show,” he remarked. Patricia Conde, visibly excited about being part of this project, shared, “I’m passionate about this crew; I come to have fun and am thrilled to continue doing what I love.”

Fernández playfully summed up the show’s anticipated impact, 'After the entire week, Friday is a legendary moment on TVE.' He humorously added it could have been perfect if Santiago Segura wasn't around. Segura, on his part, pointed out this long-term collaboration as proof of RTVE's commitment to its entertainers, noting, “This demonstrates they care for their people.”

The show promises to be unpredictable—with invited guests facing sketches portraying mock trials, adding to the spontaneity. For example, correspondent Marta González de Vega will reminisce about past moments with her section titled 'Hoy no, ayer'. She will explore viral-worthy archival clips each week, reinforcing Mota's commitment to intergenerational humor by including contributions from colleagues with inventive ideas.

The humor won’t just be contained within the television studio; segments are planned where the cast interacts with the general public. Content creators Erola Jons and Animalize are expected to lead the project called 'Canas vs. Panas', exposing the differences between boomers and Gen Z. Similarly, comical actors Javier Quero and Federico de Juan will portray characters addressing topical social issues under the banner of Los Chunguitos, ensuring humor will reign supreme.

The first episode will feature guests like Jesús Calleja, who will engage with audience members and share throwback stories, alongside Rosa López and Kiko Rivera, the latter facing comedic judgment by the show’s ensemble. Mota has hinted at shooting quirky, satirical interviews disguised as sketches with beloved characters returning to the spotlight, creating anticipation among fans.

Mota assured viewers, “This program stands out because we didn’t want to abandon our artistic identity. We aim to showcase classic characters and segments reflecting who we are as individuals and as a country. It’s all about authenticity.” Currently, 'José Mota No News' has secured eight episodes, each lasting roughly 90 minutes, with five already filmed and three pending production.

This comedic venture positions itself as not only entertainment but as part of the broader family-friendly offerings from RTVE's programming slate. With roots deeply embedded in Spanish humor and society, 'José Mota No News' aspires to entertain through laughter, proving once again the timeless appeal of comedy during uncertain times.
