John Aprea leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances as he passes away at 83 years old

John Aprea, the actor celebrated for his roles in The Godfather Part II and Full House, has passed away at the age of 83. His manager confirmed he died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles on August 5, 2024, surrounded by family.

Aprea's death was met with tributes from peers and fans alike. Paul Carafotes, who worked alongside him on Knots Landing, shared heartfelt memories on social media, stating, "Many will miss this man! Rest old friend. I’ll see you on the other side."

Born on March 4, 1941, in Englewood, New Jersey, Aprea began his film career with his first credited role in 1968's Bullitt. He gained recognition for his performance as Salvatore Tessio, portrayed as the younger version of Abe Vigoda's character from the original The Godfather, establishing himself as part of cinematic history.

His portrayal of Tessio is often cited as one of the standout performances in the Francis Ford Coppola classic, regarded as one of the greatest films ever made. Aprea's dedication to his craft was evident when he sought advice from Vigoda about his character, showing his commitment to authenticity.

Throughout his career, Aprea appeared not only on the big screen but also made significant contributions to television. He became part of the fabric of 1980s television dramas, including Falcon Crest and Matt Houston, earning respect and admiration within the industry.

He was perhaps best known for his role as Nick Katsopolis, the father of John Stamos' character Jesse on the iconic family sitcom Full House. This role brought him back to the spotlight decades after his breakout film career began.

Aprea reprised his role on the Netflix reboot, Fuller House, reconnecting with fans who had grown up watching him on the original show. His ability to resonate across generations showcased his versatility and appeal as an actor.

Aprea leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Betsy Graci, along with daughter Nicole from a previous marriage and stepchildren Marika Parker and Valentino Graci. His legacy is enriched not only by his work but by the family and friends who cherished him.
