Johannesberg Association Celebrates 40 Years With Exciting Events

Numerous activities planned for 2025 highlight community heritage and engagement.

The Johannesberg Homeland and History Association, founded in 1985, is gearing up for a significant milestone as it celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2025. The association has planned a series of engaging events aimed at honoring its history and community involvement. Key events include the 17th Backofen and Brotfest on July 12, 2025, the Wärzberrefest on August 15, 2025, and the Day of the Open Monument on September 14, 2025, which carries the motto: "Wert-voll: unbezahlbar und unersetzlich" (Valuable: Priceless and Irreplaceable). Other notable activities include a day trip on September 27, 2025, and a celebratory ceremony with an exhibition scheduled for November 1 and 2, 2025.

Reflecting on the past year, the association's 1st Chairman, Michael Rosner, noted that 2024 was another busy and labor-intensive year for the group. The 38th edition of the association's publication, the Homeland and History newspaper, featured an impressive 536 photos across 356 pages and included 18 articles. Rosner emphasized the importance of one particular article, titled "Die Gebietsreform(en) und ihre Auswirkungen (Folgen) oder 'Kann Geschichte ein Lehrmeister sein?' - Streiflichter aus der reichhaltigen Gemeindegeschichte - 50 Jahre Gemeinde Johannesberg" (The Territorial Reforms and Their Consequences or 'Can History Be a Teacher?' - Insights from the Rich History of the Community - 50 Years of the Municipality of Johannesberg). This article, which included 89 submitted photos, was particularly challenging yet significant.

Rosner expressed heartfelt gratitude to the residents of Johannesberg, local businesses, and institutions that have supported the publication through their generous donations. Their contributions have positively impacted the quality of the newspaper, making it a valued resource for the community.

In a significant development, IT specialist Ulrich Herzog has taken over the management of the association's website. This move not only provides a new structure for the association's online presence but also helps reduce costs. Rosner remarked that a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, highlighting the relief that came with this transition.

Another noteworthy achievement is the municipality of Johannesberg's decision to provide the former gymnasium of the old Breunsberg school for the extensive association archive. This development addresses a growing concern among members that publicly accessible and sensitive archival materials should not be stored in private spaces. The association's founding members may not have anticipated the extent to which private spaces would become a necessity over the years.

Rita Englert, who joined the association in the millennium year of 2000, was recognized for her long-standing membership during the recent meeting. This year marked 25 years since she became a member, coinciding with the 800th anniversary celebration of the municipality of Johannesberg. During the event, Deputy Mayor Jutta Haßkerl expressed her gratitude to the leaders of the Homeland and History Association for their enriching and commendable efforts over the years, underscoring the importance of the themes of "homeland and history" that have been given significant attention since the association's inception.

Meanwhile, the Stadtmarketingverein Olpe Aktiv is also celebrating its achievements, reflecting on a fruitful year in 2024. The organization has organized a variety of events, including the Street Food Festival and the historical Christmas market, ensuring that 2025 will be equally exciting. The association's recent meeting reported a very positive balance from the past year, with numerous activities planned for the upcoming year.

Among the notable events scheduled for 2025 is the Street Food & Music Festival, taking place from April 4 to April 6. This festival will offer visitors a culinary journey, showcasing a variety of international cuisines from 25 food trucks. The event promises free entry and aims to attract visitors from near and far to experience a blend of different cultures.

Following the Street Food & Music Festival, the open city tours will resume on April 13, providing residents and visitors alike with the opportunity to explore Olpe's rich history and cultural heritage. May will bring the anniversary city festival celebrating 25 years of "Olpe celebrates under the linden trees," scheduled from May 16 to May 18.

Another highlight will be the "Cheatday" Street Food Festival at the lake, set for Pentecost from June 6 to June 9, 2025. This festival will continue the culinary theme, offering a unique experience to attendees.

In September, Olpe Aktiv will participate in the IHK campaign "Heimat shoppen," with special promotions in local retail from September 8 to September 14. Additionally, the "Olper Weinfest" will take place from September 12 to September 14, celebrating local wines and culture.

As the year progresses, the first and second weekends of Advent will once again see the return of the historical Christmas market, accompanied by the traditional Christmas tree campaign, drawing visitors into the festive spirit.

In the realm of arts, the Figurentheater Unterwegs will present "Nils Karlsson Däumling" on April 5, 2025, at Kloster Horb, starting at 3 p.m. This performance, suitable for children ages 4 and up, is based on the beloved story by Astrid Lindgren, featuring Bertil, who discovers a friend named Nils under his bed. Through a magical spell, Bertil shrinks to Nils's size, allowing them to embark on grand adventures together, fostering friendship and imagination.

Tickets for the performance can be purchased at various local outlets, including Stadtmarketing and Buchhändler Köhler in Horb. Reservations can also be made by contacting Pina Bucci directly.

Overall, both the Johannesberg Homeland and History Association and Olpe Aktiv are set to continue their positive trajectories, engaging their communities through a rich tapestry of events that celebrate local culture, history, and the joy of togetherness.
