Joaquin Phoenix's New Film Joins Streaming Lineup

The Dark Knight trilogy is now available on Prime Video UK, enhancing viewing options for fans.

Recent shifts in streaming availability have brought excitement for movie buffs, especially fans of acclaimed filmmakers and prestigious titles. Two notable updates include the arrival of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy on Amazon Prime Video UK and the pending streaming debut of Joaquin Phoenix's latest, Beau is Afraid, on HBO Max.

Christopher Nolan's celebrated trilogy, consisting of Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), has now officially made its streaming home with Amazon Prime Video UK subscribers. Previously, only Batman Begins was available on the platform, but now the whole trilogy is accessible, providing both entertainment and nostalgia for superhero film aficionados.

Throughout the trilogy, starring Christian Bale as Batman, viewers witness the evolution of Gotham's guardian ranging from his troubling upbringing to his formidable battles against villainous foes. The dark and gritty portrayal revitalized the superhero genre, showcasing stellar performances from actors like Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and Heath Ledger.

Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is particularly noteworthy, as it received widespread praise both during his lifetime and posthumously. Nolan previously expressed his admiration for Ledger's remarkable performance: "He was an extraordinary person and an extraordinary actor." Reflecting on Ledger's unique take on the iconic character, Nolan stated, "He created this bizarre pitch. I've seen a lot of people try to imitate it since; you never knew whether he was going to go high or he was going to go low, you never knew what to expect, and that's what was terrifying about him."

Meanwhile, another cinematic gem, Beau is Afraid, is gearing up for its own streaming debut on HBO Max starting March 14. This psychological thriller features Joaquin Phoenix, alongside Patti LuPone and Amy Ryan, and is directed by Ari Aster, known for his unique storytelling style. The film has received mixed reviews, currently holding scores of 68% from critics and 71% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its ambitious budget of $35 million, it grossed only $12.3 million worldwide at the box office.

Ari Aster first gained recognition with his debut film, Hereditary, which struck gold with audiences, earning $87 million against its $10 million budget. Following this success, he released Midsommar (2019), another box office hit with $48 million on merely a $9 million budget. Both films received considerable acclaim, with many industry insiders lamenting the perceived snubs of Toni Collette and Florence Pugh during the awards season. The director's upcoming venture, titled Eddington, features Phoenix and other top stars including Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone, though its release date remains unannounced.

With streaming changes altering how audiences access these films, fans can rejoice at the renewed opportunity to watch Nolan's trilogy and anticipate the debut of A24's Beau is Afraid on HBO Max. These cinematic experiences highlight the dynamic nature of entertainment today and the continual evolution of how films are shared with audiences.
