Jeonju City is set to assist taxpayers in reporting and paying their comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax throughout the month of May 2025. Beginning May 1 and running until June 2, residents can utilize the 'Comprehensive Income Tax and Individual Local Income Tax Integrated Reporting Window' located on the 8th floor of the Daewoo Building, in collaboration with the Jeonju Tax Office and North Jeonju Tax Office.
The initiative aims to simplify the tax reporting process, allowing taxpayers with comprehensive income—such as salaries, business revenues, and pensions—to report and pay their taxes simultaneously. Taxpayers are required to complete their reporting through electronic means by the June 2 deadline, as failing to do so will incur additional tax penalties.
Lee Kang-joon, the head of the Jeonju City Planning and Coordination Office, emphasized the city's commitment to enhancing taxpayer convenience. "We are providing various tax payment convenience services in cooperation with the tax office to reduce taxpayer inconvenience," he stated. Lee further assured that efforts will continue to improve the tax environment for citizens.
In a similar vein, Gyeonggi Gunpo City will also operate a comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax integrated reporting assistance center in the Citizen Service Room of the City Hall from May 1 to June 2, 2025. This center is specifically designed for taxpayers who generated comprehensive income in 2024, allowing them to report from any local government office nationwide, thereby boosting tax payment convenience.
Taxpayers in Gunpo can use the self-reporting window if they do not qualify for the simple reporting system. Additionally, the National Tax Service is expected to send out pre-reporting guidance for comprehensive income tax around mid-May 2025, facilitating an easier reporting process.
Mayor Ha Eun-ho of Gunpo City stressed the importance of early reporting to avoid congestion as the deadline approaches. "We plan to actively promote the assistance center so that many taxpayers can easily report during the early reporting period," he remarked, encouraging residents to report as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Jinhae-gu in Changwon Special City has also announced its efforts to promote the reporting and payment of comprehensive income tax and individual local income tax for 2024. Taxpayers with comprehensive income must complete their reporting by June 2, 2025, using electronic, in-person, or mail reporting methods.
For those opting for electronic reporting, they can access Hometax to report their comprehensive income tax and then click the 'Report Local Income Tax' button to connect to Wetax for local income tax reporting. Taxpayers who file electronically can benefit from tax credits of 20,000 won for national tax and 2,000 won for local tax.
Baek Yi-ra, head of the tax affairs division in Changwon, warned that missing the reporting and payment deadline could lead to additional penalties. "If you miss the reporting and payment deadline, you will have to pay additional penalties such as unreported income tax or delayed payment penalty, so please be sure to report and pay within the deadline," he advised.
In a broader initiative, the government is set to send out 'Everything in One Place' information guides to approximately 6.33 million taxpayers starting May 1, 2025. This guide includes pre-calculated income amounts and payment/refund tax amounts, targeting various groups, including self-employed individuals and those with rental income.
Notably, 4.33 million human resource income earners such as delivery riders and academy instructors will receive specific refund guidance. Taxpayers who receive this guide can easily complete their reporting by calling the ARS phone number (1544-9944). If any corrections are needed, they can be made through Hometax or Sontax.
Furthermore, the government will operate a dedicated income tax reporting screen on Hometax and Sontax throughout May 2025. Upon logging in, taxpayers will see a customized reporting screen based on their reporting type, making the process more user-friendly.
For payments, taxpayers can opt for installment plans for amounts exceeding 20 million won, with specific conditions. For instance, amounts exceeding 10 million won can be paid in installments within two months from the payment deadline, while amounts over 20 million won allow for installment payments of up to 50%.
Overall, these initiatives across various cities in South Korea reflect a concerted effort to enhance taxpayer convenience and compliance during the busy tax season. With multiple options for reporting and payment, officials are optimistic that more citizens will take advantage of these services to fulfill their tax obligations timely.
