Jeonbuk National University recently marked significant milestones with events and leadership changes aimed at enhancing its community and academic environment.
Most prominently, Song Wan-sang has been elected as the new head of the Jeonbuk National University Employees' Union, receiving overwhelming support with 97.83% of the votes cast in favor of his candidacy. This new leadership will commence on March 1 and will last for two years. Song, who is also the Student Support Team Leader, is dedicated to improving employee rights and welfare through transparent policies and enhancing the voting ratio for university staff.
"I will represent the voices of union members with the responsibility to fulfill even small promises and work hard to create a satisfying working environment," Song stated, emphasizing his commitment to the union's priorities.
On January 30, the semiconductor specialization project at Jeonbuk National University also held a collaborative achievement-sharing meeting with Chonnam National University. This event facilitated discussions on advancements and strategies related to the semiconductor industry. Kim Jin-su, the Director of the Semiconductor Specialization University Project, noted, "This achievement-sharing meeting is an important opportunity to confirm the results of the semiconductor specialization project and activate the network between the two universities." This partnership aims to push forward innovation and resource sharing among the institutions involved.
That same day, Jeonbuk National University Hospital acknowledged various clinical departments for their outstanding performance over the past year. These selections were based on empirical results and metrics developed to measure and compare department successes. Director Yang Jong-cheol highlighted the hospital's commitment to excellence, stating, "I deeply appreciate the efforts of medical staff who have actively contributed to the development of the hospital through clinical and research activities over the past year."
Several departments were recognized: the Respiratory and Allergy Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterological Surgery, Neurological Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Pediatric Dentistry, among others. Special prizes for outstanding researchers, including the Excellent Researcher Award, were presented to notable faculty members across different areas.
Ahead of this, Jo Hosung, from the Veterinary School, was appointed to the National Bio Committee, which serves as the highest advisory board for biotechnology policies across various fields including health, food, and environmental services. His appointment, effective from December 12, 2024, marks Jo’s significant involvement as he aims to influence the development and strategy within the biopharma sector. "The National Bio Committee plays the role of the 'control tower' for the biopharma industry, discussing and deciding various policies to strengthen sustainable national competitiveness," Jo remarked, indicating the breadth of work the committee will engage in.
