The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025 Session 2 since April 2, 2025, with the fourth day of examinations concluding on April 7. The JEE Main, essential for aspiring engineering students in India, consists of two papers: Paper 1 for BTech and BE courses, and Paper 2 for BArch and BPlanning. Paper 1 is scheduled for April 2, 3, 4, 7, and 8, while Paper 2 will take place on April 9, 2025.
As the April 8 exam approaches, candidates are preparing for the final shifts of Paper 1, which will run from 3 PM to 6 PM. With the exam structure remaining consistent across shifts, each subject includes two sections: Section A with 20 multiple-choice questions and Section B containing 5 numerical questions, all carrying equal weightage.
On April 7, the first shift concluded without any major technical issues, with students reporting a paper that adhered closely to expected patterns but featured a notably challenging Mathematics section. Candidates expressed that while they were familiar with the material, the time-intensive nature of the questions prevented many from attempting all items, despite knowing the answers.
Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director at Aakash Educational Services Ltd, noted that the overall difficulty of the April 7 exam was moderate, with Mathematics emerging as the most challenging section due to its lengthy and complex problems. "Among the three subjects, Physics and Chemistry ranged from easy to moderate, while Mathematics proved to be the most challenging due to several lengthy and calculation-heavy questions that made the section time-consuming," Sharma explained.
Students reported that the Physics section was primarily focused on formula-based and numerical problems, covering topics such as Mechanics, Modern Physics, Electrostatics, and Ray Optics, which provided solid scoring opportunities for those with a strong conceptual foundation. However, the Mathematics section saw a shift in focus, with more questions from Conic Sections and 3D Geometry, as opposed to the traditionally dominant areas like Calculus and Matrices.
In the Chemistry section, students found a mix of straightforward questions that were mostly derived from the NCERT syllabus, allowing many to score effectively. The exam's balanced distribution of chapters across all three subjects was appreciated, as it ensured that no single chapter dominated the paper.
As the April 8 exam day approaches, the NTA is reminding candidates to download their admit cards from the official website, which are necessary for entry into the examination hall. The agency has also reiterated the importance of following the dress code and adhering to exam-day guidelines, which prohibit items such as electronic devices, bags, and any metallic items.
Approximately 9 lakh candidates are expected to sit for the JEE Main 2025 Session 2 exams, with those ranking within the top 2.5 lakh eligible for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam, which serves as a gateway to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
In preparation for the upcoming exams, many candidates have been utilizing mock tests and study materials that align with the latest exam patterns and syllabi. The NTA is also expected to release the provisional answer key shortly after the exams conclude, followed by the results on April 17, which will be crucial for candidates awaiting their scores.
As the exam period continues, students are encouraged to manage their time effectively and remain calm under pressure. The JEE Main serves not only as a test of knowledge but also as a measure of endurance and strategy, with success hinging on both preparation and the ability to perform under timed conditions.
