JD Logistics Expands Operations With New Hong Kong Center

The new facility in Chai Wan aims to meet growing logistics demands and enhance service efficiency.

On March 24, 2025, JD Logistics announced the opening of a new operation center in Chai Wan, Hong Kong, further expanding its operations in the region to meet the increasing demand for logistics services. This new center, which exceeds 10,000 square feet, is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of logistics operations in Hong Kong.

According to the Assistant Director-General of Investment Promotion, Ng Kwok-choi, this expansion will solidify Hong Kong's status as a multinational supply chain management center. "JD Logistics' expansion in Hong Kong will help consolidate Hong Kong's position as a multinational supply chain management center," he stated during the announcement event, emphasizing the positive implications for the local economy.

The new operation center in Chai Wan will be equipped with cutting-edge automated sorting equipment, a decision that reflects the company's commitment to integrating advanced technology into its operations. This automation is expected to double the sorting efficiency, which is crucial given the rapid growth in parcel delivery demands.

JD Logistics has already established four operational centers in Hong Kong, located in Kwun Tong, Kwai Chung, Sha Tin, and Yuen Long. Since its operations in the region began, the company has seen remarkable growth. Lam Kwok-man, the Director of the Public Affairs Department at JD Logistics, noted, "Last year, JD.com’s average daily parcel volume in Hong Kong and Macau increased by 24 times and 14 times respectively." The skyrocketing demand for logistics services has also led to a 16-fold increase in parcel volumes sent between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

In its first year of operation, JD Logistics has employed over 450 local employees, demonstrating its commitment to investing in the local workforce. The company has indicated plans to continue increasing recruitment to accommodate its expanding operations. Lam Kwok-man remarked, "We understand the potential of Hong Kong as a key consumer market, as well as its role as a significant hub in the Greater Bay Area."

The advancements in JD Logistics’ operational framework are a direct response to the booming e-commerce landscape. Increased online shopping has generated an unprecedented demand for efficient logistics services, prompting JD Logistics to enhance its operational capacities in a bid to provide seamless delivery services for both local and international customers.

As the logistics industry continues to evolve, JD Logistics remains poised to handle new challenges and opportunities that arise. With its expansion in Hong Kong, the company aims to improve supply chain efficiencies while supporting the broader economic growth and innovative development of the region.

The establishment of the new operational center echoes JD Logistics’ commitment to leveraging technology to enhance customer experiences and streamline logistics processes. As the company prepares for further growth, it welcomes the challenges of an increasingly competitive market while focusing on meeting the needs of its customers.

In summary, JD Logistics’ new center in Chai Wan signifies not just an expansion in physical space but a strategic move to bolster its infrastructure, increase employment opportunities, and ultimately contribute to the economic vitality of Hong Kong.
