Jason Statham is back on screen with an untitled thriller film that's got action fans buzzing with excitement. Known for his intense and high-octane roles, Statham is teaming up with stars from major franchises like Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean for this much-anticipated film.
According to News.Az, citing MovieWeb, filming has officially commenced on this action-packed project, which is directed by Roman Waugh, famed for his work on Greenland. The production is being handled by Black Bear Pictures, an acclaimed name in the industry.
The ensemble cast features notable actors such as Bill Nighy, known for his roles in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and Naomi Ackie, who appeared in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Statham will also share the screen with Bodhi Rae Breathnach, and Daniel Mays, who is recognized for his part in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Behind the scenes, Statham isn’t just the star; he’s also taking on the role of producer. He will collaborate with several industry veterans, including John Friedberg, who has worked on films like A Working Man, and Brendon Boyea, recognized for his work on Greenland. The team also comprises former DC producer Jon Berg, celebrated for his contributions to Wonder Woman and Aquaman, plus ex-Warner Bros. executive Greg Silverman, associated with Stampede Ventures.
Originally, the film was set to be directed by Baltasar Kormákur, known for the film Everest. Unfortunately, Kormákur had to step away from the project for reasons not publicly disclosed.
Filming locations include various scenic spots across the United Kingdom and Ireland, where Statham will portray an isolated character who must confront his tumultuous past after he saves a young girl caught in the midst of a formidable storm.
Statham isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The accomplished actor recently dazzled audiences with his role in the action film The Beekeeper, directed by David Ayer. After its release, it grossed approximately $152.7 million globally, far exceeding its $40 million production budget, which might pave the way for future sequels. Incidentally, Statham is set to star in The Beekeeper 2, aiming to start shooting later this year, potentially right after wrapping up the Black Bear production.
Adding to the excitement, Statham will reprise his infamous role as Deckard Shaw in the franchise's eleventh and final installment of Fast & Furious. There are also rumors swirling around his participation in the Dwayne Johnson-led prequel featuring Jason Momoa.
On top of these projects, Statham is set to lead the action film Mutiny, helmed by Jean-François Richet, the director responsible for Gerard Butler’s hit film Plane. Last year, Statham offered fans their first glimpse of the film, which tantalizingly featured him wielding a submachine gun, hinting at the thrilling challenges and adversaries he will face throughout the story. Like The Beekeeper, it is hinted he will be tackling another major international conspiracy, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.
With all these projects lined up, Jason Statham continues to solidify his status as one of the leading action stars today, demonstrating not just his star power but his versatility and commitment to delivering exciting performances.
