Japan Post has officially launched its new corporate delivery service, 'Yuu Packet Puff,' which began operation on February 25, 2025. This service is aimed at businesses needing to send small packages at uniform prices across Japan.
'Yuu Packet Puff' caters to corporate clients who send more than 10,000 small packages annually. The service offers non-contact delivery directly to locations specified by customers, which can include delivery boxes, mailboxes, entrées, meter boxes, storages, or garages.
The dimensions and pricing for deliveries depend on the type and number of items sent. Japan Post claims this service is economically advantageous due to utilizing postal bikes specially suited for delivering small packages. The delivery is set to be more efficient compared to other services.
Japan Post aims to reduce repeat deliveries and overall environmental impact through the service. They stated, "With our operational fleet of approximately 80,000 postal bikes nationwide, we are enhancing the delivery of small packages non-contact style, achieving improved operational efficiency alongside reduced repeat deliveries and lower environmental burdens."
For package sizing, 'Yuu Packet Puff' offers two options: customers can use their own boxes (with specific thickness and dimension restrictions) or designated bags from Japan Post. The maximum thickness for boxes can be up to 7 cm, with length and width limits adjusted accordingly. The designated bag measures 31 cm by 22.5 cm (length by width) with no thickness restriction, allowing for equivalent size to A4 formats and weighing up to 1 kg.
Standard delivery is expected to occur next day or within two days after dispatch, including weekends and holidays. The non-contact nature extends to mentioning delivery points, and if the specified location cannot be achieved, the delivery person may ring the doorbell; if the recipient is absent, the package will be returned.
Japan Post has also pointed out there is no remuneration for damage claims. While Japan Post provides individual users with the 'Yuu Packet' service, it has certain limitations like maximum thickness of 3 cm.
Recent market studies, such as the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's 2023 survey, reveal the BtoC e-commerce market's size has expanded significantly, reaching ¥24.8 trillion, marking a 9.23% increase from the previous year. The goods sales sector accounts for about ¥14.7 trillion, indicating growth and highlighting the significance of shipping small items.
With the increased demand for e-commerce shipments and the associated environmental concerns, Japan Post's initiative aims to streamline operations and reduce carbon emissions caused by repeated deliveries. The company hopes the 'Yuu Packet Puff' service significantly addresses these pressing challenges within the logistics sector.
