With remastered classics and new entries, gamers have much to explore this month.

January 2025 is proving to be a thrilling month for video game enthusiasts, with an impressive lineup of new releases set to take players on exciting gaming adventures. While this month primarily features ports and remasters of beloved classics, it also embraces new titles from well-known franchises.

The month kicks off with The Legend of Cyber Cowboy on January 1 and wraps up with several high-profile releases on January 30, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Sniper Elite: Resistance. Various platforms are represented, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, ensuring players across the board have something to look forward to.

One of the most anticipated titles is Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, launching on January 30 for PC. This critically acclaimed sequel from Insomniac Games allows players to swing through New York City as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. With new gameplay mechanics, such as the addition of Web Wings, players will have even more ways to traverse the cityscape. Faced with the menacing threat of Venom and other iconic villains, gamers can expect to experience both thrilling action and rich storytelling.

On the same day, Sniper Elite: Resistance makes its debut on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This installment brings players to World War II-era France, where they can engage enemy forces with authentic weapons and tactical stealth gameplay. Players can complete the campaign solo or join forces with friends online, adding layers of strategy and interactivity to gameplay.

The classic franchise returns with Dynasty Warriors: Origins, set to launch on January 17. Players can immerse themselves in the turbulent era of the Three Kingdoms, engaging in epic battles against massive enemy forces. This version promises enhancements to its already beloved combat mechanics and the ability to connect with historical figures, thereby deepening the player's investment in the narrative.

Coming soon on January 23, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second installment of the renowned franchise, bringing the beloved characters of Cloud and friends back to life on PC. After escaping the oppressive city of Midgar, players are bound for new experiences across beautiful landscapes, engaging side quests, and strategic battles. While it stands alone, those who played the prior title may find additional depth and enjoyment within this latest release.

Players longing for something new can also look to Eternal Strands, available on January 28. This action-adventure game from industry veterans invites players to tackle titanic enemies utilizing both swordplay and spells throughout its expansive world. The title promises revolutionary combat dynamics and player-driven exploration, allowing different styles of play.

For fans of classic platformers, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD sees its enhanced re-release on January 16 for Switch. This beloved game from 2010 returns with improved visuals and added levels, encouraging players to join Donkey and Diddy Kong on their quest to reclaim their stash of bananas from the Tiki Tak Tribe.

The month wouldn’t be complete without exploring The Stone of Madness, another captivating title launching January 28 across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. This tactical stealth game invites players to navigate through the eerie confines of an 18th-century Spanish Monastery as they confront personal phobias and confront supernatural adversaries, all painted with hand-crafted artistry reminiscent of Francisco De Goya.

Other notable releases include Sokomonster on January 2, Assetto Corsa EVO on January 16, and Cuisineer on January 28, ensuring players have numerous options to explore this month.

January is certainly just the beginning, gearing up toward the much larger gaming slate expected this February, but for now, the range of genres offered this month—including action, strategy, and classic platformers—is sure to keep players engaged and entertained.
