January 2025 Automotive Industry Sees Major Model Launches

With innovative electric and hybrid vehicles, manufacturers gear up for new market dynamics and consumer preferences.

The automotive world is abuzz as January 2025 sets the stage for transformative changes across various brands. A notable highlight is the 2023 Nissan Ariya, recently crowned the Best Pre-Owned EV of 2025 by Recurrent. This recognition solidifies its standing amid over 30 evaluated models, underscoring the vehicle’s strong value retention and impressive tech features.

Recurrent's analysis applauded the Ariya for its affordability, rapid charging capabilities, and reliability over time. With competitive pricing and advanced driver-assistance technologies, it stands out as a sound investment. Notably, the Ariya excelled even under harsh winter conditions, maintaining 83% of its battery range, showcasing its resilience.

The Nissan Ariya’s futuristic design, highlighted by dual-motor e-4ORCE AWD and ProPILOT Assist 2.0, assures not just performance but safety as well. It holds the IIHS 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK title, making it one of the most reliable electric vehicle choices for consumers.

Another significant development arrived with the launching of the Jimny 5-door from Maruti Suzuki, unveiled recently in Japan. This model, which traces back to its initial showcase at the Auto Expo 2023, is now the second most exported model from the Indian manufacturer within FY 2024-25. Manufactured exclusively at Maruti’s Gurugram plant, the iconic model has garnered attention as it embarks on significant international journeys, now exporting to nearly 100 countries.

Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, remarked on the significance of this launch, stating, “The introduction of ‘Made in India’ Jimny 5-door... is our second model to be exported to Japan this fiscal year.” The SUV’s legacy as a global off-roader and its popularity—over 3.5 million units sold worldwide—only affirms its enduring appeal.

Meanwhile, the automotive spotlight is also onto Kia, which is gearing up for the launch of its latest compact SUV, the Kia Syros, set to hit the market in January 2025. Positioned above the sub-4m Sonet SUV, the Syros offers spacious interiors and advanced features, promising to impress with its lounge-like cabin and reclining rear seats.

Available with two engine choices—a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel—the Syros is expected to provide dynamic driving experiences across its six available variants. Bookings are set to open on January 3, and the anticipation crescendos as future deliveries are planned for early February. The upcoming SUV is expected to add to Kia's growing lineup, which is also eyeing wider electric vehicle options, with future plans for adding electric powertrains.

The Filipino automotive market is also waking up with several car launches this January. Notable models released include Suzuki’s Jimny 5-Door 'Rhino Edition' and the refreshed Toyota Corolla Altis GR-S HEV. The Rhino Edition promises to be tougher with its enhanced style and functionality, ensuring it makes a statement on the road.

On the other hand, Toyota’s refreshed Corolla expands the hybrid electric vehicle segment with modern updates, thereby catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles.

Simultaneously, Voge Motorcycle has made its formal debut in the Philippines, introducing two new models to capture the cruiser and adventure bike segments. The CU525 and DS900X aim to compete effectively against established brands with varied offerings and competitive pricing.

Honda Cars Philippines also made waves with the preview of the new HR-V Hybrid, showcasing advanced features set to appeal to the environmentally-conscious consumer base. By combining performance with enhanced fuel efficiency, this model could change how the traditional crossover market operates.

From electric innovations with BYD’s new updates on the Atto 3 and the Seal Advanced version to the luxury debut of Porsche’s all-electric Macan, January heralds new beginnings for the automotive industry.
