Jammu And Kashmir Weather Forecast Calls For Snow And Cold

Unsettled winter weather continues with snowfall and frigid temperatures expected across the region.

Srinagar, Feb 10: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has recently issued its weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating varied weather patterns leading up to February 11, 2025. There is anticipation for light rain and snow across the region as winter continues to exert its chilly grip.

Beginning February 10, the forecast initially calls for predominantly cloudy conditions, with the possibility of light rain or snow at scattered locations, particularly focused over the higher elevations of North and Central Kashmir. Notably, isolated regions within the Jammu Division could also experience light precipitation. According to the Meteorological Centre, it is expected to remain drier on February 11, with only isolated higher reaches likely seeing some light snow.

From February 12 to 14, residents can look forward to uninterrupted dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir. Conversely, the weather is predicted to shift once again on February 15 and 16, bringing back cloudy skies accompanied by light rain and snow at scattered places.

On February 17, the forecast indicates conditions will settle back to being dry but expect more cloud cover from February 18 to 19, which may lead to light rain and snow at isolated locations.

The situation is being closely monitored by the authorities, who have issued advisories to travelers, tourists, and transporters, urging them to adhere to traffic and administrative advisories for their safety during potential weather fluctuations. These advisories are particularly important for those planning to visit mountainous areas or travel through potentially treacherous weather conditions.

Around the same time, recent reports have confirmed fresh snowfall at several higher elevation locations. Areas such as Sonamarg and Doodhpathri recorded substantial snow accumulation, with districts like Zojila Pass receiving up to 6 inches of snow. The Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, confirmed these measurements and elaborated on the expectation for more light snow at higher reaches.

The temperature on February 11 is forecast to hover around -17.22 °C, indicating quite chilly conditions. More granular details reveal minimal and maximal temperature predictions of -24.14 °C and -14.31 °C respectively. Humidity levels will be high at 88%, with projected wind speeds reaching up to 88 km/h, emphasizing the potential for icy conditions.

On February 12, temperatures are predicted to drop even lower, ranging from -28.43 °C to -16.43 °C, with humidity expected to settle at 68%. Residents and visitors alike are advised to plan accordingly as extreme cold can pose health risks.

The rising sun will greet the region at 07:09 AM and dip below the horizon at 06:03 PM, providing roughly 11 hours of daylight for activities. Those sensitive to severe cold should definitely prioritize warm clothing and occupy indoor spaces when possible, especially during peak cold hours.

Monitoring the air quality is also important during this changeable weather. Reports indicate the air quality index (AQI) level today stands at 0.0, reflecting potentially no notable air pollution issues presently. Individuals with sensitivity to either weather fluctuations or pollution should stay informed through local advisories.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to provide updates for Jammu and Kashmir which include not only the expected weather conditions but also temperature ranges, sky conditions, and air quality information. Staying alert to these forecasts is key for effective planning of day-to-day activities as well as travel.

It's imperative for all residents of Jammu and Kashmir, as well as travelers, to remain apprised of the changing weather patterns, particularly as the state navigates through this unique winter period.
