Ivana Wang Celebrates 20 Years With Emotional Concert Featuring Kay Tse

The singer's return to the stage after 11 years was marked by heartfelt performances and celebrity support.

Ivana Wang, the renowned Hong Kong singer-songwriter, celebrated her 20th anniversary in the music industry with her heartfelt concert titled "合體—王菀之演唱會2025" (Collaboration - Ivana Wang Concert 2025) on February 22, 2025, at the Hung Hom Sports Arena. This marked her return to the venue after 11 years, bringing together fans and fellow artists, with notable figures like Andy Lau and Gin Lee among the audience.

From the moment the concert opened, it was clear this was no ordinary event. Wang declared it was different from typical performances at the venue. Kicking off with passion and energy, she immediately engaged her audience by performing 11 songs one after the other, enticing everyone to stand up and immerse themselves in the music. Songs such as "好時辰" (Good Times) and "水百合" (Water Lily) had the crowd captivated, setting the tone for the evening.

Wang's jovial interaction with fans was another highlight. After several songs, she paused to address the crowd, humorously acknowledging their enthusiastic cheers and compliments about her appearance, saying, "你打比我教練啦,佢辛苦過我" (Call my coach, he worked harder than I did) which prompted hearty laughter. Fans reminded her of her support system, and she responded warmly by saying, "冇你地每一個支持,我又點能開到紅館演唱會呢?" (If not for each of your support, how could I hold a concert at Hung Hom?) An emotional moment for both her and her audience, this sentiment truly captured the spirit behind the celebration of her two decades-long career.

Perhaps the most emotionally charged moment of the evening occurred when her “soulmate”, Kay Tse took the stage as the special guest. The atmosphere shifted dramatically as the two artists shared their chemistry through their duet of "下次愛你" (Next Time I Love You). Prior to performing, the two shared almost two minutes of silence on stage, building anticipation among the audience. When the music began, both artists were visibly moved, resulting in tears as they sang together. Their touching performance was described by those present as "驚天地泣鬼神" (earth-shatteringly emotional). Many audience members reportedly shed tears during this poignant moment.

Despite the overwhelming emotions, there was also room for fun and lightheartedness. Wang frequently made jokes, saying about one of her early hits, "係時侯唱一首,好早好早嘅歌送比大家" (It's time to sing a very old song for everyone), as she prepared to play one of her classics. The camaraderie on stage between her and Tse showed the depth of their relationship and their artistry.

The concert was not prepared for the encore performance initially, and after her final song "小俠" (Little Hero), the audience called out for more passionately for nearly five minutes. Eventually, Wang returned to the stage, improvising, much to the thrill of her fans. "我有少少驚,我冇預encore嘅…" (I was a bit scared; I didn’t expect the encore...) she explained amid applause, deciding to play "《面具》" (Masks) at the last minute, sharing her anxiety over remembering the lyrics since it had been twenty years since she last performed it.

The mutual admiration and emotion expressed between Wang and Kay Tse, coupled with the enthusiastic and supportive crowd, created not just a concert, but a memorable celebration of her contributions to music. Reflecting on her career and the connections forged over two decades, Ivana Wang’s concert was not only commemorative but also rejuvenated the bond between her and the audience, solidifying her legacy as one of the region's leading performers.
