Italy Launches Women’s Motocross Championship Amid Growing Female Sports Interest

Siena Women’s Football team showcases determination as competitions ramp up across age groups.

The Italian Motorcycle Federation (FMI) is gearing up for an exciting new initiative aimed at promoting female motocross riders through the inauguration of the Women’s Motocross Championship 85. This program is spearheaded by the FMI Women's Committee, following the impressive turnout at last year’s Coppa Italia Junior 85cc Femminile, held in Cingoli, which showcased the growing interest among young female competitors.

The championship features three distinct categories targeting various age groups: Under 17 (born 2008-2010), Senior (born 2011-2012), and Junior (born 2013-2015). Remarkably, all categories will compete together, fostering unity among participants. Official trials and qualifications will take place on Saturdays, with the final races scheduled for Sundays, featuring two heats of 10 minutes plus two laps each. The registration fee is set at 90 euros and can be completed online through the SIGMA platform. The competition schedule includes events on March 1-2 at Malagrotta, May 10-11 at Ravenna, and October 11-12 at Faenza.

More information can be obtained by contacting the FMI's Sports Activities Coordinator, Monica Goi, at +39 335 779 9319 or via email at [email protected]. The resurgence of interest and participation among women in motorsports is encouraging, and it’s initiatives like these which aim to inspire more girls to enter competitive racing.

Meanwhile, the Siena Women’s Football team recently experienced a packed weekend, demonstrating their commitment across various age categories. On Saturday, February 22, the Under 10 team faced off against ASD Marciano Robur, showcasing their skills. Simultaneously, the Under 15s battled Livorno away, albeit facing defeat with the final score at 2-0. Despite the loss, the players displayed significant character and determination, as noted by team officials.

On Sunday, February 23, the Under 12 team took the field against Castellina Scalo at 10:00 AM, putting forth their best effort. Later, the Under 17 squad competed at home against Carrarese during the initial match of their group stage. This game proved to be challenging, with the opposing team claiming victory thanks to key goals from Tonacci and Novani, the latter coming from a messy situation within the penalty area. Despite several opportunities to equalize, Siena was unable to convert their chances due to misfortune.

The results reflect not just the scores but also the spirit and teamwork exhibited by all the players, as emphasized by Coach Signorini. "Despite the setbacks, the girls showed great commitment and team spirit, which will be fundamental as we approach future challenges," he remarked.

These events underline the growing involvement of women in sports, paving the way for more opportunities and recognition. Both the motocross championship and the Siena Women’s Football matches serve to amplify the importance of nurturing young female talent. The success of these initiatives is foundational for empowering future generations of female athletes.

With competitions ramping up and support increasing for women’s sports, the momentum is only set to build. Local communities, sponsors, and sports bodies play pivotal roles by supporting these endeavors, ensuring they thrive and resonate with aspiring athletes.
