Italian Universities Celebrate Scholarly Book Presentations

A series of academic discussions highlight significant topics and authors at Naples and Lecce.

On March 4 and 5, 2025, two significant academic events will take place at various locations across Italy, showcasing recent scholarly works by notable authors and promoting discourse on pressing topics.

On March 4, at 5:00 PM, the Convitto Palmieri in Lecce will host the third phase of the presentation tour for "Studiare e vivere in città accoglienti e sostenibili" (Franco Angeli editore), highlighting sustainable and welcoming city initiatives. This book is the culmination of efforts from the Regional Department of Education and Universities, started back in February 2021. The project, spanning two years, engaged five university cities, five universities—each responsible for different focus areas like Housing, Culture, Sustainability, Student Rights, and Accessibility—along with numerous students and local stakeholders.

The event will feature a roster of notable attendees, including regional councilor Sebastiano Leo, provincial president Stefano Minerva, deputy mayor of Lecce Roberto Giordano Anguilla, rector of the University of Salento Fabio Pollice, and president of Adisu Puglia Alessandro Cataldo. This gathering aims to deepen the conversation on integrating the university system with urban development.

The following day, March 5 at 11:00 AM, the Department of Humanities at Università Federico II will see the presentation of Traiettorie della destra politica russa nel Novecento (Federico II University press, 2024) by Giovanni Savino. This volume promises to shed light on the political trajectories of the Russian right throughout the twentieth century. The discussion will involve esteemed scholars Giovanna Cigliano and Luigi Musella from Università Federico II, alongside Mara Morini from the University of Genoa. The discussion will be coordinated by Giovanni Scarpato from Federico II.

Later on the same day, at 3:00 PM, Fulvio Cammarano will present L'inquietudine costituente. Saggi di storia politica (Pacini editore, 2024). This book features analyses of political history, aiming to provide insights and provoke thought around contemporary political discourse. Participants will include Maurizio Griffo, Luigi Musella, and Teodoro Tagliaferri, with coordination from Giovanna Cigliano.

These events will not only celebrate recent publications but will also serve as platforms for engaging discussions on relevant themes. Professor Laura Sanò will present her new work: Leggere le Filosofe, on March 5, drawing attention to women's contributions to philosophy through collected studies. This volume is edited by Annamaria Loche, Alessandro Peroni, and Laura Sanò and supported by the Chora philosophical research group with help from the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Tortona. Activities will be presided over by Jacopo Ceccon, featuring various authors and scholars including Federica Schiavon.

Sanò's book tackles the historical significance of women philosophers, emphasizing how, for centuries, women had been relegated to the sidelines of the intellectual discourse. The compilation of works aims to bring forth their voices and contributions, marking them as integral to Western civilization's development.

These presentations are part of broader academic outreach to cultivate intellectual engagement and provide insights through detailed scholarly discussions, maintaining the importance of such disciplines in contemporary society.

With these presentations, both audiences and participants will have the chance to explore significant historical and philosophical themes, culminating efforts to bridge the gap between institutions of higher education and societal progress.
