Modena, Italy - A 43-year-old Italian man has been arrested by the Polizia di Stato for aggravated theft, following swift action by police responding to reports of suspicious activity at around 2:00 AM.
Police were alerted by a local resident to the theft occurring at a commercial establishment located in the Madonnina area. The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing and carrying a crowbar, and was seen fleeing the scene just as officers arrived.
Upon arriving quickly on the scene, police encountered the man on Via Galaverna. When he spotted the officers, he attempted to escape but was apprehended. During his arrest, he was found still holding bolt cutters, with additional breaking and entering tools—specifically, a crowbar and a tire iron—located inside his backpack. Also, cash close to 130 euros was found with him, which matched the reported amount missing from the store cash register.
A subsequent investigation revealed substantial damage to the establishment. Officers noted the iron security grates had been cleanly cut, and the entrance door showed clear signs of forced entry, with the internal area of the shop indicating chaos, as the cash register and counter were ransacked.
Following his arrest, the individual was brought before the Juicio de Indagini Preliminari, where his detention was validated. The judge ruling assigned the man to house arrest pending future legal proceedings.
