BEIRUT – Recent escalations along the border region between Israel and Lebanon have drastically intensified with reports confirming Israeli forces have fired upon United Nations peacekeepers, injuring at least two personnel of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). According to UNIFIL’s official statements, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted their headquarters located near Naqoura. An Israeli Merkava tank reportedly fired its weapon at an observation tower at the UNIFIL base, resulting in injuries to the peacekeepers when the shell exploded. Fortunately, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening, and both peacekeepers are now receiving treatment at local medical facilities.
