IRNITO Partners With Military Museum To Promote Patriotism

The collaboration aims to engage students through military training and educational initiatives.

IRNITO, the Irkutsk National Research Technical University, is embarking on an ambitious partnership with the Voenno-istoricheskiy muzey, led by Alexander Rastorguev, to bolster patriotic initiatives among its students. The recent signing of a cooperation agreement between IRNITO rector Mikhail Korniakov and Rastorguev marks the beginning of what both parties hope will be significant collaborative efforts focused on promoting patriotism.

The Voenno-istoricheskiy muzey, located on Aleksandrovsky tract, spans about nine hectares and presents extensive outdoor exhibitions of military equipment. The museum has earned recognition not only for its displays of weaponry and Soviet-era relics but also for its annual reenactments of pivotal battles from the Great Patriotic War. These events draw interest from both the public and potential students seeking to engage more deeply with their country’s history.

Rastorguev emphasized the importance of engaging young people: “We are ready to collaborate with IRNITO to conduct military-sporting events, providing everything necessary from uniforms and weapons to field kitchens.” The aim is clearly outlined: to spark historical interest and to train students who might offer their services as volunteers for Ukraine operations.

According to Vladimir Kobzar, the head of the military training center at IRNITO, this collaboration is not merely beneficial; it will help “invigorate the patriotic direction at the university.” With cadets preparing to enter service, the opportunity to receive tactical training on the museum’s expansive grounds is invaluable. “We plan to hold two-day military drills for cadets on tactical-special training this June,” Kobzar highlighted, noting their previous lack of suitable facilities.

The museum's outdoor space is likely to serve as the perfect environment for these drills, allowing cadets to practice without disturbing nearby communities, as they might have done previously at less fitting venues. Kobzar asserted, “On the vast territory of the museum, students can train freely, even using noise devices like flashbangs.” This level of practical training is seen as foundational for developing skills necessary for real-world applications.

Beyond military training, the partnership seeks to tap student enthusiasm for service-learning programs. Darya Lobanova, IRNITO’s pro-rector for youth policy, expressed confidence: “We currently realize 17 service-learning projects, and we will find interested students for the museum’s tasks.” Her remarks highlight the university’s commitment to integrating community-focused initiatives within the educational framework.

The Voenno-istoricheskiy muzey plans to offer more than just historical education; it aims to produce well-rounded individuals ready for the challenges they could face. Facilities include obstacle courses, training grounds for military exercises, and resources for comprehensive weapon handling skills. Such training encourages practical experience alongside educational theory.

Events hosted by the museum involve competitions focused on military skills, from assembling weapons to piloting drones, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience. The course launched by Rastorguev for future volunteers preparing to engage with military initiatives reflects the increasing interest within the community to actively contribute to national defense efforts.

This partnership between IRNITO and the Voenno-istoricheskiy muzey stands as testimony to the growing emphasis on military readiness among youth. By encouraging student participation through practical activities and patriotic events, both organizations aim to cultivate not only knowledge and skills but also pride and connection to their nation's history and future. It’s clear they are committed to ensuring students have every possible preparation for potential service.

With all these initiatives, the IRNITO and the Voenno-istoricheskiy muzey are set to redefine how education meets national service, providing students with opportunities to engage, prepare, and contribute to the nation’s legacy. The resulting impact may lead to more informed, enthusiastic, and committed young individuals ready to support their country’s endeavors—a mission both historical and forward-looking.
