Irkutsk Gears Up For Vibrant New Year Celebrations

A lineup of cultural events promises festive joy for families and music lovers this January.

Irkutsk is set to dazzle residents and visitors alike with an array of exciting cultural events throughout January 2025, embracing the festive spirit of the New Year.

The Irkutsk Musical Theater is kicking things off with its much-anticipated New Year concert, promising to deliver heartfelt renditions of beloved holiday hits. The concert is scheduled to occur at the theater located at Sedova St., 29, and will feature lively performances by soloists from the theater, creating what they hope will be the perfect festive atmosphere. “Let the New Year concert become a pleasant surprise for you, creating the atmosphere of a cozy celebration with good friends!” the theater declared, inviting all to join the festive cheer.

Children and families will also have ample opportunity for joy with various outdoor programs planned across the city, all completely free of charge. On December 26, the Right Bank district will kick off celebrations with the street program “Racing with Grandfather Frost” at 4 PM on Barrikad St., 62/10. This program will continue through December 31, with additional performances like “New Year’s Story” at 12 PM on December 28 at the “Vidny” housing complex and multiple activities aimed at engaging children, such as games and performances across various locations.

The festive spirit doesn't stop there! The Irkutsk Philharmonic will also be hosting its traditional “Blue Light” concert, where audiences can expect to be entertained by popular musical styles. The event will gather all the soloists from the Philharmonic, offering jazz tunes, operetta pieces, and performances of beloved songs from classic Soviet comedies. "Together with their beloved listeners, the Irkutsk Philharmonic will welcome the new 2025 year with the atmosphere of 'Blue Light...'" the Philharmonic stated, ensuring it will be a memorable evening filled with music and surprise prizes from their holiday lottery.

For younger audiences, the Irkutsk Philharmonic is organizing interactive children's concerts titled “New Year's Adventures of Princess Zabava.” These will not only entertain but also educate, featuring beloved characters who will help retrieve Grandfather Frost’s stolen New Year celebrations through fun games and competitions. The concerts aim to engage children and their families, making it the perfect outing during the joyful season.

Adding to the celebration of music, the Irkutsk Philharmonic is offering the “Notkin's House” concert series on January 19 and February 16, where the youngest music enthusiasts can experience live music for the first time. The concerts invite children to join playful activities aimed at unlocking musical instruments enchanted by the forest wizard, guiding them through the basics of music and melody.

Another highlight during January includes the grand concert “Winds of Change,” dedicated to the legacy of Maxim Dunaevsky, celebrating his 80th birthday. Considered one of the notable composers of contemporary Russian music, Dunaevsky has penned songs for iconic productions such as “Three Musketeers” and “Mary Poppins.” Audience members can look forward to singing along to their favorites—an extraordinary way to honor his contributions and connect with Russian musical heritage.

Finally, on January 30, 2025, the Philharmonic will host a concert dedicated to film music, examining how iconic soundtracks breathe life and narrative depth to cinematic storytelling. This event will feature selections from legendary movies, allowing audiences to experience the synergy between visuals and sound, bringing new layers of appreciation to the films we adore.

Irkutsk is ready to celebrate the New Year with joy, music, and nostalgia, ensuring January 2025 will be unforgettable for its community members through varied cultural events and performances.
