Irish Actors Shine On Global Stage

Andrew Scott expresses pride and camaraderie among rising Irish talent during IFTAS.

Andrew Scott has spoken out about the rise in recognition of Irish talent on the global stage, expressing his pride and hope to collaborate with more Irish actors in the near future. Fans might be well aware of the camaraderie between him and Paul Mescal, which was evident after their collaboration in the film All Of Us Strangers. Mescal even joined Scott at the London premiere of Gladiator II.

At the 2025 IFTAS, Scott reflected on the surge of popularity for Irish actors around the world. His nomination for his role in the Netflix series Ripley placed him alongside other notable talents like Colin Farrell, recognized for The Penguin, Michael Fassbender for The Agency, and Aidan Turner for Rivals. All of these projects have gained significant recognition on the global stage.

Scott shared, "I feel really, really proud of us. Particularly because I’m such an admirer of all the people – Saoirse [Ronan] and Cillian [Murphy] and Colin [Farrell] and Paul [Mescal], obviously, and Jessie Buckley and Ruth Negga and Alison Oliver and just so many people... Jamie Dornan!" He emphasized the warmth and connection he feels with these talented individuals, stating, "It’s incredible. I feel like it’s great to just be part of this gang; I hope I just get to work with them a little bit more."

Adding a touch of humor, Scott mentioned the idea of all the Irish actors teaming up, jokingly proposing, "We should join forces Avengers style for a big Irish superhero movie," which certainly caught the imagination of his audience.

Scott is set to return to New York soon to bring his acclaimed West End play Vanya to Off-Broadway. Reflecting on his time filming Ripley, he fondly recalled working with his co-star Dakota Fanning and the remarkable Italian crew. He even took Italian lessons to prepare for the project, which he described as "loved."

Johnny Flynn, co-star of Ripley, chimed in, saying, "I had to learn Italian for some scenes. Andrew, Dakota, and I all had Italian lessons with the same teacher who we all loved, so it was fun. We hung out with her a lot. For me, it was amazing to be with those guys. We had so much fun together. We enjoyed the food, and we were in the most beautiful places on earth." Flynn’s experience highlights the collaborative and enjoyable atmosphere shared among the cast, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Clearly, the sense of pride among Irish actors is palpable, and their rising global recognition speaks volumes about the talent hailing from the Emerald Isle. On the world stage, they are not just making waves; they are creating tides. Scott's reflections are just one facet of this bright and promising era for Irish talent.
