InterTradeIreland Launches 2025 Seedcorn Competition For Entrepreneurs

The competition invites entries for funding and support, with new categories to foster innovation.

InterTradeIreland has officially launched the 2025 Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition, providing an essential platform for early-stage businesses across the island of Ireland to showcase their potential to investors. This prestigious competition is notable not only for being the only all-island initiative offering an equity-free cash prize but also for the significant prize fund of €800,000, which has been raised to support aspiring entrepreneurs in their journey.

The 2025 competition marks a pivotal year with the introduction of three new categories: Business to Consumer (B2C), Business to Business (B2B), and Deeptech. These additions reflect the evolving landscape of business innovation and are designed to open the Seedcorn competition to a broader range of entrepreneurs, targeting various sectors from emerging technology to cutting-edge solutions.

Participants will benefit from invaluable support that goes beyond mere financial incentives. The Seedcorn competition is specifically tailored to help entrepreneurs prepare for investment through expert feedback, pitching activities, and networking opportunities with seasoned investors. This unique combination ensures that businesses gain both exposure and essential tools to elevate their market presence.

Margaret Hearty, Chief Executive of InterTradeIreland, expressed excitement about this year’s competition, stating, "We’re thrilled to continue supporting businesses across the island and drive innovation through the Seedcorn competition. This year, we're especially excited to introduce the Special Impact Award, which will recognise businesses that are leading the way in digitalisation and sustainability - priorities reflected in the new Programmes for Government." This award acknowledges companies making strides in digital transformation and promoting sustainability, elements increasingly vital in today’s business environment.

An example of the positive impact this competition can have is evident in the experience of Dr. Paul Byrnes, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Mavarick, which emerged as the overall winner of the 2023 competition. Dr. Byrnes reflected, "The Seedcorn competition was a pivotal moment for us at Mavarick. It provided invaluable insights into the investment process, which significantly impacted the next stages of our business. Since winning, we’ve secured €1.3m in a pre-seed funding round and continue to grow rapidly. I’d strongly encourage every entrepreneur to apply - this competition can make a real difference to your business."

Mavarick received €100,000 as the overall winner alongside an additional €20,000 for the Sustainability/Low Carbon Award. The company, based in Limerick, is a clear example of how Seedcorn can catalyze significant growth and opportunity for businesses focusing on innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

As the deadline for entries approaches—set for April 25th, 2025, at 1pm—early-stage businesses are urged to apply and take advantage of the resources available through the Seedcorn competition. Each regional winner will receive €50,000, while all category winners will earn €100,000, providing significant opportunities for businesses of all sizes and sectors to secure vital funding for their growth.

The Seedcorn Investor Readiness Competition, in its dedication to fostering a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs, continues to underscore the vital role of innovation and investment readiness. Should entrepreneurs wish to be part of this defining opportunity, they can enter the 2025 competition via the official InterTradeIreland website.

This year’s Seedcorn competition not only aims to enhance funding opportunities for businesses but strives to build a community of investors and entrepreneurs committed to collaboration and sustainable growth in Ireland.
