Internacional Targets Striker Brenner Amid Roster Changes

The Brazilian club aims to strengthen its offense, pursuing the former São Paulo forward as key players depart.

Internacional is making strides to bolster its attacking lineup as they set their eyes on striker Brenner from Udinese, especially following the imminent departures of key players.

The Brazilian club is preparing for the 2025 season as interest around Brenner heats up. The 24-year-old striker has long been on Internacional's radar, but recent developments may lead to his return to Brazil. With Wesley's potential move to Krasnodar, Russia, Internacional finds themselves needing additional reinforcements up front.

Currently, Brenner's time at Udinese has been fraught with challenges. After transferring from FC Cincinnati for approximately €10 million, the young forward has struggled to secure consistent playing time, featuring prominently only nine times last season, scoring once and assisting twice. His opportunities dwindled, leaving him participating only as a substitute recently, such as during the match against Inter Milan.

According to reports from Vozes do Gigante, "Brenner is being evaluated by Internacional for 2025," with the club's management closely monitoring the player's circumstances at Udinese, where he battles for relevance.

The backdrop to Internacional's search for Brenner includes not just the uncertainty surrounding Wesley's future but also Lucas Alário's likely exit to Nacional-URU. The striker's contract termination negotiations are reportedly well-advanced, adding urgency for Internacional to secure another offensive option.

Given the departures, Internacional intends to invest strategically. The club wishes to avoid acquiring players who may be frequently called up for international duties, which makes Brenner appealing since he has fallen out of favor at Udinese. He is now seen as fit to provide support alongside Rafael Borré and Enner Valência. The club is also nurturing its young talent, like Ricardo Mathias, who was recently selected for Brazil's under-20 squad.

Internacional is eyeing the possibility of securing Brenner on loan with an option to buy, which could ease the financial obligations associated with his acquisition. "The loan agreement with option to buy is the most likely scenario," reported sources familiar with the club's plans.

The Brazilian league presents both opportunities and challenges for Brenner. The striker has demonstrated potential and skill, particularly during his time with FC Cincinnati, but the European stage has proven to be complicated, limiting his contributions to the Italian side.

Internacional's management recognizes the urgency to update their roster for competitive upcoming seasons, ensuring they remain capable of contending on both domestic and international fronts. Brenner's resume as part of the youth setup at São Paulo and his previous form showcases his ability, positioning him as the ideal candidate to fill the vacated roles. Indeed, there’s no denying the club's intent is serious.

The urgency also arises from the notable absence of forward Ricardo Mathias during the early phases of next season due to his commitments with the national youth team. Consequently, bolstering their ranks with someone like Brenner could provide the much-needed depth and experience.

Despite the setbacks he has faced, Brenner is reportedly open to returning to Brazilian football, where he can enjoy more consistent playing time and potentially revive his career. He is currently seen as not just another option for Internacional but as someone who can grow and develop alongside the team's existing efforts.

With transfer negotiations likely to ramp up as the window approaches, those at Internacional are hopeful they can finalize this deal, bringing Brenner back home to contribute to their revival plans. The club's ambition to remain competitive is evident, and securing new talents who can hit the ground running will be pivotal as they aim for success next season.
