Intensified Fighting Marks New Phase In Ukraine Conflict

With over 140 engagements reported, Ukrainian defenders showcase resilience against Russian assaults across multiple fronts.

On March 22, 2025, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported an uptick in hostilities as Russian forces escalated their attacks along the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions. Over the past 24 hours, there were 142 combat engagements recorded across various front sectors, reflecting the ongoing intensity of the conflict.

Ukrainian defenders managed to repel a significant number of assaults. Specifically, in the Pokrovsk direction, they thwarted 37 assault actions near key populated areas including Zelene Pole, Yelyzavetovka, Lisovka, Udachne, Preobrazhenka, Bohdanovka, and Andriivka. Alongside these efforts, the Ukrainian defense forces also engaged in active operations within the Kurakhove region.

On the previous day, March 21, Russian forces increased their offensive maneuvers, launching 18 airstrikes, dropping 25 KAB bombs, and executing 276 shellings, among which nine were from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). Despite these aggressions, Ukrainian defenders successfully intercepted 23 enemy assaults, engaging in a steadfast defense that even saw one combat engagement lasting for upwards of six hours.

While the Ukrainians successfully defended against numerous attacks, the enemy took significant losses as well. Reports indicate that in just one day, Russian forces experienced casualties exceeding 1210 personnel and lost a range of military hardware including nine tanks, 20 armored combat vehicles, 96 artillery systems, and a large number of drones.

Meanwhile, Russian forces continued their barrage against Ukrainian positions, including the launching of one missile strike, 85 airstrikes, and an extensive 6407 shellings, which included attacks from MLRS units and a deployment of about three thousand kamikaze drones. Key targets for these strikes included populated areas such as Petrushivka, Turya, Ugroidy, Stepok, and Krasnopillya in the Sumy region, alongside assaults on Pokrovsk, Zarya, Oleksandropol, and Nova Poltavka.

The fighting has remained fierce across other front lines as well. For instance, in the Kharkiv direction, enemy forces made six attempts to penetrate Ukrainian defenses near Vovchansk. In the Kupyansk direction, there were an additional six assaults against the Ukrainian troops. Additionally, in the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched 22 assaults against defensive positions, with attempts to breach defenses near Kopanki, Novomikhailovka, Nevske, and Yampolivka.

In recent reports, multiple assaults have also been documented in the Seversk direction, where the enemy made five advances in the areas of Belogorovka and Rozdolovka on March 22. The Kramatorsk front saw four enemy assaults as well, targeting Chasov Yar.

Ukrainian forces displayed remarkable resilience, notably repelling 19 assaults in the Toretsk direction and defending against attacks aimed at Dachne, Druzhba, and Diliivka on the same day. In the Novopavlovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks, while in the Gulyaipolsk direction, they successfully defended against two attempts near Novoselka and Privolne.

Interestingly, there were no combat engagements reported in the Orekhovsk direction during this spike in hostilities. Moreover, in the Volynsk and Polessk directions, there were no indications of any enemy offensive formations being detected.

The ongoing combat situation highlights the relentless nature of the conflict, with both sides experiencing significant challenges and losses. As the Russian forces continue their aggressive approach, Ukrainian defenders remain steadfast, employing a mix of tactical defense and counter-offensive strategies to maintain their positions.
