Intense Fighting Continues As Ukraine Strikes Russian Positions

Ukrainian forces report successful attacks while Russia accuses Ukraine of violating ceasefire agreements.

In the latest developments from the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the situation on the front lines remains intense, with both sides engaging in significant military operations. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian defense forces have reported a series of successful strikes against Russian positions, while Russia has accused Ukraine of violating a U.S.-brokered moratorium on energy strikes.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 8:00 a.m. on April 15, 2025, Ukrainian aviation, missile forces, and artillery targeted and hit five areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment. The strikes also resulted in the destruction of two air defense systems, four command posts, eight artillery systems, three radar and reconnaissance stations, and two other significant enemy targets.

In total, 99 combat clashes have been reported on the front line in the same time frame, with the most intense fighting occurring on the Pokrovsk and Lyman fronts. These areas saw the highest number of assaults, with Russian forces launching a staggering 48 attacks. Specifically, on the Lyman front, Russian troops attempted to advance near several settlements, including Nadiia, Nove, Katerynivka, Hrekivka, Zelena Dolyna, Torske, Bilohorivka, and Hryhorivka, engaging in 20 separate assaults.

On the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled a single Russian assault near the village of Nova Kruhliakivka. Meanwhile, on the Siversk front, three attacks were reported against Ukrainian positions near Verkhnokamianske and Ivano-Darivka. The Kramatorsk front experienced four combat engagements near Chasiv Yar, Andriivka, and towards Maiske.

Further south, the Toretsk front witnessed 11 assaults by Russian forces near Ozarianivka and Toretsk, while the Pokrovsk front saw Ukrainian defenders repel 28 Russian offensive attempts near the settlements of Sukha Balka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Kotliarivka, Bohdanivka, and Andriivka. The Novopavlivka front faced seven attacks against Ukrainian positions near Kostiantynopil and Rozlyv, and the Orikhiv front saw three assaults repelled near Stepove, Lobkove, and Mali Shcherbaky.

In addition to these engagements, Ukrainian troops also repelled two Russian attempts to advance on the Prydniprovske front. In the operational zone of Russia’s Kursk Oblast, 17 combat clashes were recorded, accompanied by 56 airstrikes, 89 guided aerial bombs, and 436 artillery attacks, including 26 using multiple-launch rocket systems.

As the fighting continues, the Russian Defense Ministry has accused Ukraine of violating the ceasefire agreement concerning energy infrastructure. Specifically, they allege that Ukraine carried out six strikes against Russian energy facilities in the last 24 hours, breaching the U.S.-brokered moratorium established last month as part of a broader effort to facilitate a peace settlement in Ukraine. However, Reuters has not been able to independently verify these claims.

This ongoing exchange of accusations highlights the fragile nature of the current ceasefire and the complexities surrounding the conflict. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating agreements aimed at reducing hostilities, complicating the prospects for peace.

The situation remains fluid, with military operations intensifying on both sides. As the conflict enters another day, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution to the ongoing violence and suffering.

In summary, the past 24 hours have seen significant military activity on both sides of the conflict, with Ukrainian forces successfully striking multiple Russian targets while facing intense assaults on various fronts. The accusations from Russia regarding violations of the energy strike moratorium add another layer of tension to the already complex situation.
