India Launches Operation Sindoor Against Terrorism In Pakistan

In response to the Pahalgam attack, India targets terrorist camps, killing over 100 militants.

In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian military conducted an airstrike named 'Operation Sindoor' on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation was launched in retaliation for a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indians and one Nepali national. The airstrikes reportedly killed over 100 terrorists, including key commanders from the militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The operation took place between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM, with the Indian Army confirming that nine locations were targeted. Among those killed were Hafiz Abdul Malik, a prominent leader of Lashkar, and other significant figures associated with terrorist operations in the region. The strikes were executed using precision-guided missiles, which allowed the Indian military to avoid civilian casualties while effectively dismantling terrorist infrastructure.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the attack in Pahalgam was "intolerable" and emphasized that Pakistan has been providing safe havens for terrorists. He called on the international community to condemn the attack and recognize Pakistan's role in harboring terrorism. Misri added that the operations carried out under 'Operation Sindoor' were a necessary response to the ongoing threat posed by these terrorist groups.

In the aftermath of the strikes, Pakistan declared a state of emergency, closing its airspace for 48 hours and grounding flights at key airports, including Lahore and Sialkot. The Pakistani government has reported that it is taking measures to protect its territories, with heightened military presence along the border.

Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held discussions with the chiefs of the armed forces following the successful execution of the operation, reaffirming India's commitment to combatting terrorism. In a tweet, Singh expressed pride in the Indian armed forces and their decisive action against terrorist threats.

Home Minister Amit Shah also took to social media, stating, "#OperationSindoor is Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam." His comments reflect a broader sentiment among Indian leaders who have rallied behind the military's actions as a necessary step in ensuring national security.

In addition to military responses, the economic ramifications of the airstrikes were felt in the stock market, where the Sensex dropped by 398 points amid fears of escalating conflict. However, shares of Tata Motors and other export-related companies saw gains, buoyed by expectations of increased trade opportunities following a free trade agreement with the UK.

In Uttar Pradesh, a red alert was issued in response to 'Operation Sindoor', with local police coordinating with defense units to enhance security measures. The Director General of Police emphasized the importance of vigilance in the wake of the operation.

Public reactions to the airstrikes have been mixed, with many citizens expressing pride in the Indian military's efforts. The family of a victim from the Pahalgam attack voiced their gratitude towards the Indian Army, stating that the operation was a fitting response to the violence they suffered.

Former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani praised the operation, asserting that it demonstrated India's resolve against terrorism and highlighted the strength of the Indian military under Prime Minister Modi's leadership. He noted that the nation must unite against terrorism to ensure the safety of its citizens.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also expressed his pride in the armed forces, stating, "Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!" This sentiment echoes across the political spectrum, with leaders from various parties acknowledging the need for a strong response to terrorist threats.

As the situation continues to evolve, the Indian government remains firm in its stance that the airstrikes were targeted solely at terrorist infrastructure, with no intention to harm civilians or military installations in Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that the strikes were a direct consequence of the Pahalgam attack and a necessary measure to ensure national security.

In Pakistan, the government has reacted strongly to the airstrikes, with reports of emergency measures being implemented in hospitals and schools. The Pakistani military has also been accused of targeting civilian areas in response to the Indian strikes, further escalating tensions along the border.

Internationally, the United States has called for de-escalation, with former President Donald Trump commenting on the situation, suggesting that the ongoing conflict needs to be resolved swiftly. The U.S. has been monitoring the developments closely, emphasizing the importance of stability in the region.

As both nations navigate this precarious situation, the implications of 'Operation Sindoor' extend beyond military action, affecting diplomatic relations and economic stability in the region. The world watches closely as India and Pakistan confront the challenges posed by terrorism and the ongoing conflict.
